webpage is dedicated to the 6 million Jews and 6 million Christians
killed during the Nazi Holocaust. It is also dedicated to the Allied
Prisoners of War including Jewish and Christian American soldiers who
were sent to concentration camps by the Nazi regime, which is a largely
untold chapter in the darkness of the Holocaust. Of special note, this
webpage is dedicated to the Christians who risked everything including
their lives to help save Jews from certain death. All of the above
subjects are addressed below on this webpage.
We remember the past not only to honor those who came before us and suffered, but because the future of our children and grandchildren depends on our preventing it from happening again.
The Holocaust carried by the Nazi's and their sympathizers in which 6 million Jews and 6 million Christians were killed ended only 69 years ago which is still within living memory of some, and, which can be considered recent on the time scale of history. However those that survived and the other eyewitnesses to the horror such as the soldiers who liberated the camps, are now at an age where they are rapidly diminishing in number.*
Two thirds of all European Jews were killed in the Holocaust including 90% of Polish Jews, 95% of Belarusia Jews and French assimilated Jewish children who were marked with a yellow Star of David and sent to the death camps by French officials (Germany was not alone in its active involvement in the Holocaust).
Lithuania is a numerical example of the local impact of the Holocaust. Of approximately 208,000 to 210,000 Jews in Lithuania before the war, an estimated 195,000–196,000 were murdered before the end of World War II, most between June and December 1941. In the Babi Yar massacre alone near Kiev in the Ukraine, the Nazi SS murdered 34,000 Jews in just two days.
The Nazi’s war against the Jews was global. The only thing that prevented them from carrying out their objective with the efficiency demonstrated in Europe and Russia to make Judaism an extinct religion and Jews and extinct race (in Nazi terms) by killing all Jews globally was their defeat i

Hitler had ordered the collection of 200,000 Jewish artifacts, which were photographed and catalogued to be displayed at the end of the war as a trophy case of archaeological remains. They were to be displayed in Prague in what was to be called "The Museum of an Extinct Race".
That strong anti Semitism and a large pro Nazi movement and Fifth column existed in the US before and during WWII is well documented.
Equally well documented, are the alliances between Islam in the 1930's and 1940's and the Nazi’s against the Jews in North Africa and the Middle East. Haj Mohammed Effendi Amin el-Husseini, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, traveled to and met with Adolph Hitler, petitioning him several times about addressing the Jewish issue in the Mideast on the same basis as the Nazi regime was pursuing. (13)
Among the non Jews murdered by the Nazi's as part of the Holocaust were Priests, Pastors, Nuns , academics, students and other civilians, those of Polish, Slavic and Russian heritage, Gypsies, Jehovah's Witnesses, Gays, Lesbians, Blacks living in Germany (there were ~24,000 when Hitler came to power)**, captured US soldiers who were Jewish, looked Jewish, were Black or Mexican and even those who were clearly caucasian Christians (who were sent to concentration camps***,****), American civilians who found themselves in Germany at the start of the war and allied soldiers in particular Russian soldiers.
|Every Jew Was Required To Wear The Yellow "Jude" Star, Even Little Children.|
There were also the innocent handicapped or mentally ill which Nazi progressive eugenics theory considered genetically flawed, non- contributing drains on society and therefore unfit to live, who were put to death at first by medical euthanasia and later in concentration camps with other victims of the Holocaust.**
There were many Christians who at great personal risk risking torture and death tried to help save Jews. Examples included Varian Frye who was a journalist that our own U.S. Statement Department did everything possible to stop from his saving 2,200 Jews, Irena Sendler a Polish Catholic Nurse who became known as the Angel of the Warsaw Ghetto who saved 2,500 Jewish children, Père Marie-Benoît who was a Capuchin Franciscan friar who in total saved or safeguarded ten's of thousands and the entire country of Denmark which in a collective effort saved almost all of its Jews from deportation. Sections with details on each of these noble examples of the human race in a period of such great darkness are below.
Below: Jews being rounded up in the Warsaw Ghetto for transportation to a concentration camp and one of the best known photographs of the Holocaust period. The picture is from the infamous Nazi publication “The Warsaw Ghetto No Longer Exists”, also known as the Stroop Report. This picture is unique in that the names of the Nazi holding the machine gun to the right and several of the Jews, including the children, were identified giving the image a unique quality and impact. History and in particular the Holocaust teaches us that the line can be razor thin between a humane and morally restrained veneer of civilization, and, the inhumane and immoral acts resulting from unfettered new or previously suppressed beliefs and emotions of hatred and jealosy encouraged by governments, other organizations, geopolitical and economic events.
The history, victims and lessons of the Holocaust will therefore only stay alive if documented, seen, constantly remembered and passed on to the next generation, despite various forces that try to stop this from occurring including those that deny the Holocaust ever occurred and that death camps like Treblinka were just "transit camps" despite overwhelming existing and hard evidence that continues to be found as late as 2012. **
Yom HaShoah (יום השואה) which in English is Holocaust Remembrance Day, or Holocaust Day, was first established in 1953 as Israel's national memorial day to commemorate the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust. The recognition that millions of others were also subjected to, perished in and suffered during the Holocaust have led to Holocaust Remembrance Day commemorations being widely held on an interfaith basis in many countries.
Holocaust Remembrance cannot just be for one day if the memory of the event and its victims are to stay alive and the Holocaust deniers are to be defeated.... so that this terrible episode of inhumanity and immorality never again repeats itself for persons of any race, religion, political group, sexual orientation or medical condition.
It is for this reason that this web page will remain a permanent part of our website, with the hope it helps in its own small way to educate whoever looks at it about the Holocaust.
The pictures and videos listed on this web page will be disturbing, but the Holocaust was a horrifically disturbing event in the history of what we consider recent modern civilization.
Large typesizes were used for this page as an aid to older readers, and, in recognition of the wide range of computer screen sizes and resolution that exist.
Near the bottom of this page is an extensive REFERENCES AND EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES section with internet links to and descriptions of websites, videos (including US Army films taken when the concentration camps such as Auschwitz were liberated and TV documentaries) and books that are recommended by organizations dedicated to keeping the memory of all aspects of the Holocaust alive.
The FOOTNOTES AND ADDITIONAL REFERENCES section also contains extensive detailed information including internet links that may be new to many readers about the Holocaust and current events of concern. These 2 separate sections also served to reduce the size of the main body of this page to facilitate an initial reading, with the hope viewers will continue or return to read and understand the more in-depth information. That the Holocaust occurred cannot be denied. That men who were fathers and women who were mothers themselves could kill innocent civilians so easily including mothers holding their children , or, perform terrible medical experiments on innocent children (pictures immediately below from Auschwitz) defies human nature.
Dr. Mengele (pictured to left above) at Auschwitz had a fascination with twins and dwarfs. He carried out hideous and gruesome experiments for example on the seven brothers and sisters of the Ovitz family (pictured to right). Dr. Mengele escaped to S. America after the war and lived out his natural life there under various names and the protection of sympathizers.
Horrific new transcripts just revealed in 2012 from British Intelligence of German POW's reveal ordinary soldiers and airmen bragging to each other about their role in the Hiler's atrocities.
POW Major General Walter Bruns is heard recalling a “typical Jewish action” he witnessed in Russia. BRUNS: “The trenches were 24 metres long and roughly three metres wide. They had to lie like sardines in a tin, heads towards the middle.
Above, six machine gunners ¬delivered the neck-shots. “When I arrived, the trenches were pretty full already and the living had to lie on top before they got the neck-shot. They were all arranged beautifully so not too much space was wasted. They had already been robbed before they got here.
On this Sunday I saw a half-kilometre-long queue shuffling forward step by step, the line-up for death. As they got nearer, they saw what awaited them. Around about here they had to give up their suitcases and their sacks of ¬valuables. A little further on, they had to strip, and they could only keep on a shirt or a slip. They were mostly women and ¬children, not much older than two.”
“The extermination of the Jews was known in the world of the soldier far more than recent investigations of the topic have suggested.” Other times, ordinary German soldiers boasted of contacting men they knew in SS units to ask when executions at this or that village were scheduled. Then they would take picnics and booze, and go along to watch for a grand day out.
As documented in pictures and movies the SS, Einsatzgruppen, Wehrmacht, their puppet government Eastern European allies and even participating civilians themselves took...the Holocaust is a stark reminder of what the human race is capable of...extreme evil... as well as extreme good.
The Nazi's kept meticulous records of their planning for the Holocaust which started at the Wannsee conference*****, who they rounded up, transported and killed.
The volume of such captured documents in addition to pictures and film totally refutes the attempts by Holocaust deniers to lie about the existance of these actions and most of all....destroy the memory of all the innocent people who were murdered for just being Jews...including doctors, artists, musicians, farmers, professors, tradespersons, fathers, mothers and 1.3 million Jewish children, and, the millions of others who were victims for no other reason except who they were as human beings, or, what they believed in.
THE LONG HISTORY OF JEWS IN GERMANY
Jewish history in Germany extends back many centuries and would need to be the subject of a substantial webpage by itself regarding the major cities, villages, leading personalities and the cycle of pogroms (persecution and killing) of Jews that culminated in the Holocaust.
Therefore, as an example, 1,700 years of Jewish history recently came alive in downtown Cologne Germany in 2013-2014.
To the right is the reconstructed view of what the Synagogue in Cologne looked like at the time based on excavations being done now of the site.
Excavations in the city where Jews have lived as long as Christians yielded some remarkable findings which are to be displayed in a major new museum.
Sometime between 1267 and 1349, Samuel Bar Zelig scratched his name onto the bimah (the platform from which the cantor leads the prayer and reads the Torah) of this Synagogue based on fragments that were found during the excavation process.
JEWS IN GERMANY-THE PRELUDE TO AND BEGINNING OF THE HOLOCAUST
At the end of 1933, there were about 520,000 Jews in Germany of which one third lived in Berlin. Jews represented less than one percent of the country's total population.
Over half (approximately 304,000) emigrated during the first six years of the Nazi dictatorship as anti Semitism became increasingly unbearable. Of the approximately 214,000 Jews left in Germany just before WWII started, 160,000 and 180,000 were killed in the Holocaust.
Jews held important positions in government and taught in Germany's renowned universities. Of the 38 Nobel Prizes won by German writers and scientists between 1905 and 1936, 14 went to Jews. Over 100,000 Jews fought for the Germans in WWI with many receiving medals for valor in combat.
Despite this, the combination of the Jews being a small minority and long held European and in particular German anti Semitic prejudices made the Jews a useful political scapegoat for Hitler as the cause of Germany’s defeat in World War I and its economic catastrophe which culminated in the hyperinflation during the Weimar Republic. In addition, as illustrated in Mein Kampf, the book in which Hitler spelled out his beliefs and intended actions before gaining power, he had a personal visceral hatred of the Jews.
The Holocaust was initiated and largely managed and perpetrated by The National Socialist German Workers' Party (German: Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei abbreviated NSDAP), commonly known in English and history as the Nazi Party.
Actions and Laws enacted depriving Jews of their rights as German citizens by the Nazi Government under Hitler progressed rapidly.
On April 1, 1933, a week after Hitler became dictator of Germany, he ordered a boycott of Jewish shops, banks, offices, department stores and professionals.
SA Paramilitary (also known as the Brown Shirts) enforced the boycott by standing guard in front of Jewish owned shops on which they placed signs, and, not allowing any shoppers to enter.
The boycott was followed by a rapid series of laws which robbed the Jews of many rights.
On April 7, "The Law of the Restoration of the Civil Service" was introduced which made 'Aryanism' a necessary requirement in order to hold a civil service position. All Jews holding such positions were dismissed or forced into retirement.
On April 22, Jews were prohibited from serving as patent lawyers and from serving as doctors in state-run insurance institutions.
On April 25, a law against the overcrowding of German schools placed severe limits on the number of young Jews allowed to enroll in public schools.
On May 10, burning of books under the Nazi regime was launched. The Nazi government purged cultural organizations of Jewish and other officials alleged to be politically suspect or who performed or created art works which Nazi ideologues labeled “degenerate.”
On June 2, a law prohibited Jewish dentists and dental technicians from working with state-run insurance institutions.
On May 6, the Civil Service law was amended to close loopholes in order to keep out honorary university professors, lecturers and notaries.

This picture was taken from the house of Rabbi Posner, who led the Jewish community of Kiel in Germany and who lived right across the street from the local headquarters of the Nazi Party. “It was on a Friday afternoon right before Shabbat that this photo was taken” The Menorah was saved by Rabbi Posner who fled Germany in 1933 and the Menorah was donated to Yad Vashem (the Holocaust Memorial in Israel) with the photograph. His grandson said “My grandmother realized that this was a historic photo, and she wrote on the back of the photo that 'their flag wishes to see the death of Judah, but Judah will always survive, and our light will outlast their flag.”
On September 28, all non-Aryans and their spouses were prohibited from government employment.
On September 29, Jews were banned from all cultural and entertainment activities including literature, art, film and theater.
In early October 1933, Jews were prohibited from being journalists and all newspapers were placed under Nazi control.
On the evening of 15 September 1935, two measures were announced to the Reichstag at the annual Party Rally in Nuremberg, becoming known as the Nuremberg Laws.
The first law, The Law for the Protection of German Blood and German Honour prohibited marriages and extramarital intercourse between "Jews" (the name was now officially used in place of "non-Aryans") and "Germans" and also the employment of "German" females under forty-five in Jewish households.
The second law, The Reich Citizenship Law, declared those not of German blood to be Staatsangehörige (state subjects) while those classified as "Aryans" were Reichsbürger (citizens of the Reich).
Between November 1935 to July 1943, 13 implementation ordinances were issued dealing with the enforcement of Reich Citizenship Law that progressively marginalized the Jewish community in Germany.
The “it cannot happen here” and general blindness to what was happening driven by hope and self delusion was exemplified by uniformed Nazis attending a Jewish communal gathering in December 1933 at the invitation of Dr. Heinrich Stahl, the liberal Berlin Jewish community leader—to encourage a better Nazi understanding of the Jewish situation. Three thousand Jews attended the meeting. Representatives of the Nazi party sat on the platform .
Kristallnacht (night of broken glass) November 9, 1938 was a series of coordinated attacks against Jews throughout Nazi Germany and parts of Austria on 9–10 November 1938.
It was carried out by the SA paramilitary (Brown Shirts)) against Jewish civilians. German authorities looked on without intervening.
The top picture to the right is a 1916 picture of a large synagogue in Berlin.
The bottom picture to the right is a picture of the burned out and destroyed remains.
The Kristallnact attacks left the streets covered with broken glass (hence the name Kristallnacht) from the windows of Jewish-owned stores, buildings, and synagogues.
Within 48 hours, synagogues were vandalized and burned, over 7,000 Jewish businesses were damaged or destroyed and over one thousand synagogues destroyed. 91 Jews were killed and nearly 30,000 Jewish men were arrested and sent primarily to Dachau, Buchenwald, and Sachsenhausen concentration camps.
It is said by many, that from this point onward the world could no longer say they did not know what was happening to the Jews. Below are the front pages of the NY Times and the Cincinnati Enquirer. London newspapers had similar headlines.
The NY Times headline makes it sound like the German Government stopped the riots, when t actually started it. The NY Times, like many major publications of the time, while reporting the news were also afraid of antagonizing the Nazi's and losing their presence in Germany.
The Nazi Weapons Law stated that no Jew could be involved in any business involving firearms. On November 11 1938, one day after the SS were unleashed against the Jews, new regulations under the Nazi Weapons Law barred Jews from owning any weapons.
Anti Semitism was driven through propaganda via words and pictures plus exclusionary signs that made anti Semitism the accepted norm.

"They poison our life.” “Der Giftpilz” is the title of an anti-Semitic children’s book put out by the notorious anti Semite and racial purist Julius Streicher which was translated for Nazi use in conquered countries.
The Nazi’s pursued a campaign of euthanasia (putting to death via injections and other methods) those considered a financial burden on society such as persons who were handicapped or mentally ill. These persons were termed "uselss eaters" in Nazi propaganda. Propaganda to “educate” and create an acceptance of this is illustrated by this poster from the 1930’s. It promotes the Nazi monthly Neues Volk (New People}, the organ of the party’s racial office. The text reads: “This genetically ill person will cost our people’s community 60,000 marks over his lifetime. Citizens, that is your money. Read Neues Volk, the monthly of the racial policy office of the NSDAP.”

THE FINAL SOLUTION
January 20, 1942, 15 high-ranking Nazi Party and German government officials gathered in the Berlin suburb of Wannsee to discuss and coordinate the implementation of what they called the "Final Solution of the Jewish Question." This meeting laid out plans for the final solution to the Jewish Question—the deportation and extermination of all Jews in German-occupied territory.
The meeting was called by Reinhard Heydrich, a General in the SS and Chief of the Reich Main Security Office including the Gestapo. Heydrich has been called by historians the darkest figure in the entire Nazi heirarchy.
Incredibly, in 1940 Heydrich was also appointed and served as President of Interpol, the international police organization.
The "Final Solution" was the code name for the systematic, deliberate, physical annihilation of the European Jews. At some still undetermined time in 1941, Hitler authorized this European-wide scheme for mass murder. Heydrich convened the Wannsee Conference to inform and secure support from government ministries and other interested agencies relevant to the implementation of the “Final Solution”
By the time of the Wannsee Conference, the Einsatzgruppen operating behind the army front lines, had murdered more than half a million people. Mass shootings were not suitable for European Jewry outside the war zone and were also demoralizing for the Nazi troops. This had prompted a search for a more impersonal way of killing large numbers of people. By January 1942, the death camps in Belzec and Chelmno, with their gassing facilities, were already under construction.
At the time of the Wannsee Conference, most participants were already aware that the National Socialist regime had engaged in mass murder of Jews and other civilians in the German-occupied areas of the Soviet Union and in Serbia. Some had learned of the actions of the Einsatzgruppen and other police and military units, which were already slaughtering tens of thousands of Jews in the German-occupied Soviet Union. Others were aware that units of the German Army and the SS and police were killing Jews in Serbia. None of the officials present at the meeting objected to the Final Solution policy that Heydrich announced.
Heydrich indicated that approximately 11,000,000 Jews in Europe would fall under the provisions of the "Final Solution." In this figure, he included not only Jews residing in Axis-controlled Europe, but also the Jewish populations of the United Kingdom, and the neutral nations (Switzerland, Ireland, Sweden, Spain, Portugal, and European Turkey).
Meticulous minutes of the meeting were taken at the meeting and survived the war as evidence that the meeting occurred.
THE HOLOCAUST WAS NOT JUST CARRIED OUT BY NAZI'S
Those who were members of the Nazi party were aided and abetted by regular soldiers, police, government officials, ordinary civilians, financial institutions and large companies of many countries including from the U.S. who contributed directly and indirectly to the scale of the Holocaust.
The period of the Nazis was not just a blip in German history; the Holocaust was a Europe-wide crime. [1b].
Secret Nazi Tapes Reveal How Ordinary German Soldiers Were Responsible For War Crimes And Not Just SS' with statements like “ I Liked To Shoot Everything - Women, Kids... It Was Kind Of Sport'” .
While most Christians tried to help the Jews, many were scared into compliance but there were many others who actively participated in the murder of Jews due to the intrinsic European anti Semitism that had existed for millenia. In many cases, neighbors murdered neighbors. As an example, now show in the newly released (in U.S., October 2013) movie "Aftermath", on July 10, 1941, half the residents of Jedwabne, a Polish village 85 miles northeast of Warsaw, murdered the other half. The mob, led by the mayor, were Catholics; their 1,600 victims were Jewish, slaughtered over several nightmarish hours with bats, knives, rifles and other improvised weapons. Those who survived the massacre were then rounded up in a barn donated by a local farmer, which was then set ablaze. A plaque erected at the site blamed Nazis for the massacre, but, in fact, Nazis had only authorized it. Polish film makers produced this movie despite threats, attacks by media and funding issues.
THE HOLOCAUST WAS AIDED DIRECTLY AND INDIRECTLY BY GOVERNMENTS OF OTHER NATIONS....INCLUDING THE U.S. STATE DEPARTMENT WHICH HAD MANY LEADING FIGURES AND OFFICE HOLDERS WHO WERE ANTI SEMITIC
As more facts are revealed with time the attitudes and actions of leaders and their government appointees of other nations made the responsibility for the Holocaust global.
Included were major elements in the U.S. State Department and other sectors of the Roosevelt administration at the time, who actively blocked the immigration of Jews trying to escape what was happening in Europe and also tried to prevent and stop people of good will from helping Jews escape from Europe.
One of the most notorious anti Semites in the US State Department was Breckinridge Long (picture to left).
He was appointed Ambassador ot Italy by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) and he was a great admirer of Mussolini.
Long was in charge of the Visa Division at the US State Department and the U.S. State Department's man in charge of helping Europe's Jews during the pre war and actual war period.
During this time, he thwarted the entry into the United States of as many Jews as possible, as well as East European refugees.
He deliberately created bureaucratic obstacles for refugees seeking visas, and found ways to block many humanitarian efforts.
90% of the immigration quotas from countries controlled by Germany and Italy were therefore never filled.
Had they been, it's estimated that the lives of 200,000 (two hundred thousand) people could have been saved.
Only in 1944 when the War Refugee Board was established was his power diminished. But it was too late to save Jews from the worse period of the Holocaust 1943 and 1944 when most of the killing occurred.
Yet, Breckinridge Long was never held accountable for his actions, despite the fact that he was responsible for the deaths of more Jews than many who were considered to be Nazi war criminals who were prosecuted after the war for the deaths they directly or indirectly caused or carried out.
In fact, when Breckinridge Long died in 1958, this man who was responsible for the deaths of so many, a number far exceeding many Nazi war criminals who were hanged, was buried with honors at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington DC.
President Franklin Roosevelt's refused to admit 937 mostly German Jewish refugees aboard the ship, St. Louis, because it was politically impossible given the public anti Semitism that existed in the U.S. and the anti Semitism of powerful forces in the U.S. State Department. The movie "Ship of Fools" was based on the voyage of the St. Louis. Its passengers were forced to return to Germany after being denied entry by the U.S. and by Cuba. Some 250 of the German Jewish refugees would later be killed in the Holocaust.
Above is picture of the ship in Havana Cuba harbor after being denied entry and before returning to Europe. Below are passengers on the St. Louis. Note all of the children, who along with the adults, were sent back by U.S. and Cuban officials to face the Holocaust and possible death.
Anti Semitism was endemic in the U.S. during the 1930's and 1940's. Stores such as Woolworth's in Brooklyn New York had signs in their windows "Help Wanted, No Jews Need Apply".
In the 1930’s, the Mayfair Hotel in Miami Beach had a sign posted “No Dogs, No Jews, No Colored”.
Bal Harbor Florida in the early 1950’s still had signs that said "No Jews Dogs or Colored" posted in its public buildings as well as at each major cross road.
Such was the level of overt let alone discrete anti Semitism and other prejudices in the US before and even just after the war and the Holocaust.
Shockingly, A 1944 survey found that 24.2% of Americans considered Jews “most dangerous” compared to 8% for Germans and 16% for Japanese” American soldiers were fighting Germany and Japan, but Americans viewed Jews “most dangerous”. Sixty-one percent of Americans polled responded that “American Jews should [NOT] be treated like all other people. Immediately following Krystallnacht “10% even believed Jews should be deported.” Regarding the Jews, at least, popular sentiment in Germany and the United States was not that far apart. [Click here for article or see ref 12 below]
THE HOLOCAUST WAS AIDED DIRECTLY AND INDIRECTLY BY MAJOR GLOBAL COMPANIES
Major companies, some still in business and known globally, were involved in the concentration camps including Adler SA, AEG, AFA-Werke, Astra, Auto-Union, Bayer, BMW, Daimler Benz, Dornier, Ford, Heinkel, IG Farben, Junker, Krupp, Messerschmitt, Metall Union, AGA Photo, Shell, Siemens, Solvay, Telefunken and Volkswagen.
Three books among many available detail the roles of major US companies such as Ford, General Motors, IBM, the Rockefeller Foundation and others in supporting the Nazi war machine that facilitated the Holocaust and/or facilitated the Holocaust directly. These books, described in more detail below with URL’s where they can be purchased include “Trading with the Enemy: the Nazi-American Money Plot 1933-1949”, "Nazi Nexus", and “IBM and the Holocaust”. IBM for example was responsible for organizing the 1933 German census using 60 column punch cards which identified the Jews in Nazi Germany, and, such systems were used later in the Final Solution.
THE POWERFUL NAZI FIFTH COLUMN IN THE U.S.
For those too young to remember how close the U.S. itself came to the cliff's edge of falling into the Nazi abyss from within, one needs to remember that during the 1930’s there was an active Fifth Column of Nazi sympathizer's in the U.S.
The American German Bund, a pro Nazi organization, sponsored 24 indoctrination oriented summer camps for children and like minded adults in the U.S.. They were emboldened enough and supported by a sufficient number of Americans to engage in public marches, including a march down New York City streets with American and Nazi flags. In February 1939 the German American Bund held a rally at Madison Square Garden in NYC attended by 20,000 Americans giving the Nazi salute.

THERE WERE THOSE THAT TRIED TO HELP
VARIAN MACKEY FRYE, A JOURNALIST AND THE AMERICAN SCHINDLER
There were brave individuals who at great risk to their own lives and careers tried to help like journalist Varian Frye (pictured to right on a war time publication about his saving refugees and his lectures, and, below to right in Marsaille France in 1941).
Varian Fry, a 32 year old Harvard-educated classicist and editor from New York City, helped save thousands of endangered refugees who were caught in the Vichy French zone escape from Nazi terror during World War II.
Varian Frye saved over 2,000 Jews including such distinguished artists and intellectuals as Marc Chagall, Andre Gide, Hannah Arendt, Andre Breton, Max Ernst, Franz Werfel, Lion Feuchtwanger, and Heinrich Mann.
When Varian Frye was asked as to his motives, he responded that when he had visited Berlin in 1935, he saw SA men assaulting Jews in the city's streets, and he felt he could no longer remain indifferent. When he returned to US he decided to act:
''I remembered what I had seen in Germany. I knew what would happen to the refugees if the Gestapo got hold of them ... It was my duty to help them ... Friends warned me of the danger. They said I was a fool to go. I, too, could be walking into the trap. I might never come back alive.“
Varian Frye was expelled from France in 1941 after his covert activities angered officials of both the U.S. State Department and Vichy France.
In 1991, 50 years after his courageous actions in France saved thousands of innocent lives and 24 years after his death, Fry received his first official recognition from a United States agency, the United States Holocaust Memorial Council.
In 1996, Varian Mackey Fry was named as "Righteous Among the Nations" by Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Heros and Martyrs Remembrance Authority in Jerusalem -- the first American recipient of Israel's highest honor for rescuers during the Holocaust, an honor also received by Oskar Schindler and Raoul Wallenberg.

INDIVIDUALS WITHIN OCCUPIED EUROPEAN COUNTRIES SAVED JEWISH CHILDREN. IRENA SENDLER, A POLISH CATHOLIC NURSE, IS AN EXAMPLE
Irena Sendler was a brave Polish Catholic nurse who became known as the angel of the Warsaw ghetto for having saved 2,500 Jewish children from certain death. She worked for the Warsaw department of social wellbeing which administered the community soup kitchens throughout the city.
Sandler was able to take in the children of many families in order to keep them from being deported to the concentration camps. She transported the children in ambulances as if they were sick with typhus, she hid them in trash cans, tool boxes, supply chests or coffins and later in convents and Catholic homes. She kept records with the real identities of the children so that one day they could be reunited with their surviving family members.
In 1943 she was arrested by the Gestapo and taken to prison where she was brutally tortured. She was sentenced to death, but she was freed thanks to the intervention of the Polish resistance. In 1965, the organization Yad Vashem of Jerusalem granted her the title righteous among the nations. In the years before her death in 2008 she was nominated several times for the Nobel Peace Prize.

PÈRE MARIE-BENOÎT A CAPUCHIN FRANCISCAN FRIAR WHO SAVED TEN’S OF THOUSANDS OF JEWS
Père Marie-Benoît was a Capuchin Franciscan friar who helped smuggle more than 4,000 Jews into safety from Nazi-occupied Southern France and worked later to save Jewish lives in Italy.
In his words: “We Christians claim to be spiritual children of the patriarch Abraham. This should be enough reason to exclude any kind of anti-Semitism whatsoever, anti-Semitism being an ideology which we Christians cannot in any way share and be part of.”
Born Pierre Péteul, Father Marie-Benoît in World War I he was wounded at Verdun, received five citations and a Cross of War. After the war he earned a doctorate in theology at Rome and became a recognized authority on Judaism. Later he entered the Franciscan Capuchin Order and became a priest stationed in Marseilles.
In Marseilles, France in 1940, he found thousands of refugees trying to escape the horrors of World War II. Father Marie-Benoît made the Capuchin monastery in Marseilles a base. His operation focused on finding ways to successfully smuggle Jews out of an increasingly hostile France.
He organized a massive forging operation, installing and improvising printing facilities to create fake passports, baptism certificates, and other documents that aided hundreds of refugees in crossing the border to Spain and Switzerland. The routes were so well organized, groups left regularly twice each week— and several other rescue centers were organized in Marseilles. This was often done working with Jewish organizations and the French resistance.
November 1942, the Nazis occupied France's Free Zone which included Marseilles. This ended helping Jews escape to Switzerland and Spain from Marseille. Father Benoît than moved to Nice and focused on the Riviera and Haute-Savoie, occupied by the Italians.
Fr. Marie-Benoit convinced the Italian General Lospinosohim assigned to the area not to take action against the 30,000 Jews who lived in the vicinity of Nice. The Jews continued to cross into the Italian Zone and only a small number were captured by the French.
With authority from the Spanish government of Francisco Franco to decide which French Jews qualified as being of Spanish descent, he managed to save 2,600 Jews.
Father Marie-Benoît left France and appeared in northern Italy under the name Padre Benedetti, where his new monastery in Rome became a way station and rescue center to aid hundreds of Jewish and anti-Nazi refugees. He procured asylum for them with papers from the Swiss, Romanian, Hungarian, and Spanish.
Father Benoît was named the acting president of Delegazione Assistenza Emigranti Ebrei/Delegation for the Assistance of Jewish Emigrants, the Jewish welfare organization in Italy, after its other leaders were arrested, tortured and/or executed.
At Romes liberation in June 1944, the Jewish community—led by Rabbi Israel Zoller held an official synagogue ceremony in honor of Father Benoît.
December 1966, Yad Vashem recognized Father Benoit as a Righteous Among the Nations.
DENMARK: AN ENTIRE COUNTRY TRIES TO RESCUE ITS JEWS FROM GERMANY AND THE HOLOCAUST....HOW TIMES HAVE CHANGED...THEN TO NOW
In a truly remarkable chapter during the height of the Holocaust, the entire country of Denmark made a largely successful effort to protect its Jewish population by helping them escape and resisting Nazi efforts to separate and ship them to concentration camps.
Germany occupied Denmark in 1940 but did not decide to deport its 8,000 Jews until August 1943. In September 1943 a German diplomat secretly informed the Danish resistance that the Nazis were planning to deport the Danish Jews.
The Danes immediately organized a nationwide effort to smuggle the Jews to neutral Sweden by boat across the Kattegat Strait, a narrow body of water separating the two countries.
Most of the Danish Jews lived in Copenhagen and left. They found hiding places in homes, hospitals, and churches.
Then, 7,220 Jews and about 700 non Jewish relatives were taken by brave Danish fisherman and other boat owners at great personal risk to Sweden. In the first few days of October 1943 when the Germans began a nationwide action to round up all Danish Jews for deportation to the concentration camps most had already been saved. The Danish rescue effort was unique because it was nationwide.
Click here to see article ‘Danes saw us as friends, neighbors, not as Jews’, and for two videos on the rescue of Danish Jews click here and here.
Unfortunately, Denmark has lost its moral compass and goodwill. In December 2012 in the European Union (EU) Denmark, Finland, Portugal and Ireland opposed condemnation of Hamas pledge to destroy Israel. EU Ambassador Lars Faaborg-Andersen of Denmark said in early 2014 "Europe Doesn’t Understand PM’s (Netanyahu) Demand For Recognition Of Israel As A Jewish State" in peace negotiations with the Palestinians.
If that does not sum up Europe's historically intrinsic and ingrained anti Semitism that has existed in the general population and leadership for millennia combined with the very reason Israel was established in modern times, nothing does.
It is also an insult to those in his own country of Denmark who risked their lives on a large scale to help the Jews during the Holocaust. From a historical perspective, unlike today, Denmark once stood out among nations as a beacon of incredible morality, empathy and courage in considering its Jewish citizens Danes first, Jews second and helping them.
CONTROVERSIAL BUT DOCUMENTED.....
ACCORDING TO DOCUMENTS, THE U.S. REFRAINED FROM BOMBING AUSCHWITZ 'TO AVOID JEWISH INFLUX'
IN HOLOCAUST YAD VASHEM HOLOCAUST MUSEUM STUDY CONCLUDES 'AMERICA AND US JEWS DID NOTHING'On the visit of Knesset MK’s to Auschwitz for International Holocaust Remembrance day in January 2014, Deputy Defense Minister Danny Danon spoke to the Arutz Sheva newspaper during the visit to Poland about the American failure to bomb the camps and halt the genocide during the Holocaust. Israeli Economics Minister Naftali Bennett also asked "where was the US during the Holocaust?" "It always bothers me that the US could have bombed (the camps),
could have made it their mission to stop the killing machine," Bennett
commented. "But out of tens of thousands of missions during the war,
they did not make an attempt even once. We will never rely on anyone
else but ourselves."Mark Langfan, Chairman of Americans For a Safe Israel (AFSI), took the opportunity to cite Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial's answers to the question. Referencing Holocaust scholar David Wyman's research, it was determined that the US government "purposefully failed to bomb by a definitive government decision in February 1944." While repeated requests to bomb the camp were rebuffed by the US army, reportedly the War Department had already decided in secret as early as February 1944 that it would never use military resources ”for the purposes of rescuing victims of enemy oppression.”
According to the documents, the US feared that by saving Jews it would be forced to bring them to America.
In internal memos a State Department official specifically warned of the ”danger” that the Nazis ”might agree to turn over to the United States and to Great Britain a large number of Jewish refugees.”
This darker incentive behind the US refusal to bomb Auschwitz is highlighted by the fact that the US clearly was able to do so militarily. "From the spring to the autumn of 1944, Allied aircraft flew over the camp several times on a mission to photograph German industrial plants a few kilometers away. In the late summer these plants were bombed, but the extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau was never bombed," Yad Vashem Holocaust museum in Israel comments.
"Israeli Jews must look to see how Americans failed European Jews during the 1930s and 1940s in order to see if Israelis can rely on Americans today,".
"In the Holocaust, based on Yad Vashem's historical analysis, the answer is simple: America and American Jews did nothing."
Deputy Defense Minister Danny Danon said "It always bothers me that the US could have bombed (the camps), could have made it their mission to stop the killing machine". "But out of tens of thousands of missions during the war, they did not make an attempt even once. We will never rely on anyone else but ourselves." Dannon remarked "the US failed to bombed Auschwitz, and when they could have done it they said 'it's not part of the war effort.'"
He noted that the horrific realities of the genocide that took place at the camp forces one to ask what the war was for, if not to stop the massacres. Yad Vashem discussed the American reasons given for not bombing the camp, which centered around claims that only victory in the war would save the Jews, and that such bombing missions would "divert forces."
In the final analysis, the Yad Vashem (museum in Israel) notes "it is clear that the Allies did not marshal the same energy and determination to rescue the Jews as the Nazis did to murder them."

HOLOCAUST IMPLEMENTATION: WORDS BECOME DEEDS
The table below, from Nazi records, are the statistics for the extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau in Poland., just one of the extermination camps specifically built for mass murder.
Auschwitz-Birkenau was the largest extermination camp.
From March 1942 until early 1943, it is estimated that about 600,000 Jews were murdered in the Belzec extermination camp.
Treblinka opened on July, 1942, with the beginning of the evacuation of the Warsaw ghetto and some 245,000 Warsaw Jews and 112,000 Jews from other places in the Warsaw district were murdered in Treblinka by September 21. 337,000 Jews from the Radom district, 35,000 from the Lublin district and 107,000 from the Bialystok district also met their death in Treblinka with 738,000 Jews who had been residents of the General Government controlled area. From outside Poland many thousands of Jews were transported to and killed in Treblinka including 7,000 from Slovakia, 8,000 from the Theresienstadt concentration camp, 4,000 Jews from Greece, and 7,000 Jews from the Macedonia portion of Bulgaria. In addition to the Jews, some 2,000 gypsies were killed in Treblinka.
The killing operations in Majdanek started April 1942 and ended July 1944 with 360,000 estimated deaths including Jews, Soviet POWs and Poles.
Sobibor, the second extermination camp to open, murdered an estimated 250,000 people the majority being Jews.
Chelmno, also known as Kulmhof a small town roughly 50 miles from the city of Lodz, Poland, was where the first mass killings of Jews by gas took place as part of the 'Final Solution'.
Jasenovac less well known then the other death camps, was Croatia’s largest death camp. It was a network of several sub-camps, established in August 1941. It was a death camp since the plan was to exterminate all its inmates. While the actual number is unknown, it is estimated that upwards of 100,000 men, women and children who were Jews, Serbs, Gypsies, Croat partisans and citizens were killed in the most bestial fashion at this camp. While the killing in Sobibor, Treblinka, or Auschwitz was carried out on an industrial basis, in Jasenovac the killing was sheer brutality including Ustasha guards competed in killing contests. The Croat Ustashas appeared to enjoy the burdensome labor of manual killing; they took pride in saving bullets. They used knives, hammers, axes. Occasionally they used saws. People were killed upon arrival, while a small number of skilled professionals were kept alive to work at the camp. That gave rise to the absurd charge that the Jews were in charge at Jasenovac. On April 22, 1945, 600 able-bodied inmates, armed with sticks and hammers, took the desperate decision to organize a mass escape, to face a very likely death today, as opposed to a certain death tomorrow. Most died under machine gun fire, but 80 emerged from Jasenovac and survived.
FACES OF PURE EVIL Below are 3 of the most notorious SS officers who oversaw the implementation of the Holocaust. From left to right Dr. Josef Mengele who decided who should live and be killed on arrival at Auschwitz-Birkenau and conducted medical research on camp prisoners with a focus on children, Rudolf Hoess who was Commandant of Auschwitz and Josef Kramer who was Commandant of Birkenau.
In the new book 'The Private Life of the SS in Auschwitz' by historian Piotr Setkiewi which will be available in 2013 in which he interviewed the maids of the concentration camp leadership, Janina Szczurek, 32, said; 'He (Rudolf Hoess, Commandant of Auschwitz, center in picture above) tucked his children into bed every night and he kissed his wife each morning. He wrote poems about the "beauty of Auschwitz". He was obsessively kind to animals and his five children. He would have no moral qualms about ordering the gassing of child inmates of his camp, but in his garden he would play hide-and-seek with his five children and recited poetry to them. Such was the dehumanization of the camp prisoners into inferior beings and virtual objects to be experimented on or killed in the minds of those who killed them, versus their own families.

There, Kramer personally carried out the gassings of 80 Jewish men and women.
These victims were part of a group of 87 selected at Auschwitz to become anatomical specimens in a proposed Jewish skeleton collection to be housed at the Anatomy Institute at the Reich University of Strasbourg.
SOME CAPTURED JEWISH AND CHRISTIAN AMERICAN SOLDIERS WERE PUT IN CONCENTRATION CAMPS
(The section about the Gardelegen Massacre which included Christan Allied POW's follows this section.)
Rarely mentioned in narratives of the Holocaust or history books, captured U.S. soldiers, Jewish and Christian, were also victims of the Nazi Holocaust machine. Some were imprisoned in concentration camps, forced to work as slave labor on weapons production and in one famous case subject to what has come to be called the Berga death march.
The outbreak of war in Europe put tens of thousands of American civilians, especially Jews, in deadly peril, but the State Department failed to help them. As a consequence of this callous policy many suffered — and some died.
Later, when the United States joined the war against Hitler, many brave young American soldiers were captured and imprisoned. Jewish soldiers were at a special risk — they were sent into battle with a telltale “H” (for “Hebrew”) on their dog tags, which helped the Nazis single them out for mistreatment.
One group of Jewish GIs was sent to the brutal Berga concentration camp, which had the highest fatality rate of any camp where American POWs were held. Other POWs were sent to other notorious concentration camps, like Buchenwald and Mauthausen, where they became victims of the machinery of the “Final Solution.”

|Private Alvin Abrams of U.S. Army, after being liberated. He also survived the Berga death march from a Buchenwald subcamp.
After the Battle of the Bulge and other battles, captured Jewish GI’s, GI’s who were “ethnic undesireables” and depending on circumstances white Christian GI’s were sent to Berga which was a particularly harsh concentration camp.

THE GARDELEGEN MASSACRE: THE NAZI SS, LUFTWAFFE SOLDIERS AND HITLER YOUTH MURDERED OVER 1,000 JEWS, POLITICAL PRISONERS AND ALLIED PRISONERS OF WAR
4,000 prisoners from the Dora-Mittelbau concentration camp, it’s satellite camps and a Neuengamme subcamp were to be transported to concentration camps such as Bergen Belsen and Sachsenhausen to the north. The transport trains could not go any further due to allied air raid damage to the rails. The prisoners were taken off the trains and then force marched.
On April 13, 1945, upon arrival at the town of Gardelegen, more than 1,000 prisoners were taken to a big barn largely made of masonry on the Isenschnibbe estate and forced into the building. The German prisoners who were promised their freedom if they helped herd the other prisoners into the barn were then forced into the barn themselves.
The guards barricaded the doors and set fire to the large amount of straw inside that they had previously soaked with gasoline. Prisoners that tried to dig under the barn walls were shot by the guards.
Hundreds had been quickly buried by the retreating Nazi's in mass graves using local laborers, but they could not complete their task to hide the evidence of the massacre before the US Army arrived.
This site was discovered by F Company, 2nd Battalion, 405th Regiment, 102nd Infantry Division of the US Ninth Army on April 15, 1945. A few prisoners had survived including some Russian soldiers who had been POW’s sent to concentration camps.
Many pictures were taken by the US Signal Corp. General Eisenhower had the media taken there to photograph scenes such as the one to the left below of bodies taken from the structure. The massacre was reported in leading US media at the time such as the New York Times, Washington Post and Life Magazine.
The picture to the left below is the Military Cemetery at the time it was developed for the victims of Gardelegen who were almost all Christian. To the right is the cemetery today.
Picture below to left are US Army soldiers examining the large masonry barn
structure where the prisoners were burned to death. To the right is

showing part of the inside of the structure.
pictures immediately below are from the photos used by the 102nd Infantry Division
in the pamphlet they prepared describing their experiences at the site
and what they witnessed. The picture to the left shows prisoners piled
up by a door trying to get out with one having tried to dig under the
foundation to escape (prisoners that did this were shot). To the right
is a picture frame from the pamphlet showing one of the prisoners burned to
death who was apparently a POW as he is wearing combat boots.
On April 19, the New York Times and The Washington Post ran stories about the massacre, quoting one US soldier who stated:
"I was never so sure before exactly what I was fighting for. Before this you would have said those stories were propaganda, but now you know they weren’t. There are the bodies and all those guys are dead. "
The 102nd Infantry Division of the US Ninth Army produced a pamphlet with text and pictures to document what they found that was widely circulated at the time.
Gerhard Thiele, the German official who gave the order to burn the prisoners, escaped and lived in the western Zone of occupation and later West Germany. He was never brought to justice and died in 1994. SS Untersturmfuhrer Erhard Brauny, the transport leader, was sentenced to life in prison and died in 1950.
The Holocaust was not just carried out in concentration camps. In the field, Einsatzgruppen (action groups) between 1941 and 1943 in Poland and the Soviet Union under the command of Reinhard Heydrich, chief of the Nazi Security Service or SD, carried out the murder of massive numbers of Jews.
Heydrich took his orders directly from Himmler, who in turn received his orders from Hitler. The Einsatzgruppen were mobile killing units organized into four battalions (A, B, C, and D), consisting of approximately 3,000 men, generally high-ranking officers of the SS, Gestapo, and police.
Many of these murderers were intellectuals and professionals—lawyers, architects, economists, and other well-educated men. Otto Ohlendorf, who commanded Battalion D, held three degrees, including one in jurisprudence.
Small children and babies were subject to special treatment. Concerned with ricocheting bullets because cartridges could pass through their tiny bodies, the toddlers were frequently tossed in the air, shot while in freefall, and then allowed to land in the pit. At other times, the killers preferred to save their ammunition, smashing the small heads with a rifle or the butt of a gun.
One and a half million Jews—men, women, and children—were murdered by the Einsatzgruppen.
|Top picture: Picture taken by German soldier of Russian Christian children from a local village who then executed. Bottom picture: Russian Christian civilians being mass murdered ... shot while kneeling by a pit.|
Nazi propaganda poster warning against eastern European "subhumans".
As in the case of anti Semitic propaganda, words turned to deeds as illustrated by the pictures to the right.
Despite their proficiency, these 3,000 killers could not have accomplished this feat in such a relatively short period of time without assistance. They frequently received enthusiastic help from the German regular army, Hungarian and Romanian soldiers, and local collaborators, particularly Ukrainians, Lithuanians, and Moldavians. In other words, many thousands of perpetrators of different nationalities, ranging from peasants to brilliant jurists, eagerly participated in the shooting of 1.5 million Jews, one by one, with an average daily death rate of 2,500.
The SS and Einsatzgruppen also murdered large numbers of Christians, in particular those who were Slav and eastern European (included Russians) who were considered to be inferior races.
NUREMBERG COURT HEARS NAZI GENERAL RELATE HOW HE EXECUTED 90,000 JEWS IN RUSSIA JANUARY 4, 1946 NUREMBERG (JAN. 3)
Major General Otto Ohlendorf, former aide of Gestapo chief Heinrich Himmler, today testified before the International Military Tribunal here that 90,000 Jews were “liquidated” in Russia by his unit alone in the first year of the war.
Some of the Jews, he stated, were shot in anti-tank ditches and gullies, while others were killed in gas vans. He admitted that he himself had given orders for the mass-execution of Jews and said that he was personally present when some of the executions were carried out.
The Nazi police general told the tribunal that special SS units attached to the German Army on the eastern front had orders to kill every Jew. The high command of the German Army had full knowledge of the orders, he declared, adding that he had frequently conferred with army commanders on the execution of these instructions which were issued by Hermber.
“I was present at the mass executions,” he testified. “A local Einsatz commander would collect all the Jews in one area. They would be rounded up on the pretext that they were to be relocated. After registration, the Jews were collected at certain places, then transported to the place of execution, which was usually an anti-tank ditch or a natural gully. The Jews were transported in trucks and executed immediately. The time during which the victims knew what was going to happen to them was kept as short as possible.”
An affidavit by Bertrus Gerdes, district leader of the Gestapo troops in Bavaria, was read in court, revealing that Ernst Kaltenbrunner, head of the Nazi Security Police and one of the defendants, had ordered the “liquidation” of two Jewish camps at Landsberg and Mushldorf “by the air force.” The order could not be carried out and the Jewish inmates of the Landsberg camp were marched to Dachau to be exterminated there, the affidavit said.
BABI YAR: THE LARGEST SINGLE MASS MURDER EVENT OF THE HOLOCAUST
Approximately 50,000 Jews were murdered at Babi Yar (near Kiev, Ukraine) in a massacre that began on September 29, 1941. Within two days, the Nazis had murdered 34,000 Jews. The massacre is considered the largest single mass murder event of the Holocaust.
Over the next year, another 15,000 Jews were taken to the site and murdered. All of them were buried in the large pit that Jewish victims had been forced to dig before being murdered. Altogether, some 100,000 people are thought to be buried there including Russian civilians and soldiers who were prisoners of war.
The decision to kill all the Jews in Kiev was made by the military governor, Major-General Kurt Eberhard, the Police Commander for Army Group South, SS-Obergruppenführer Friedrich Jeckeln, and the Einsatzgruppe C Commander Otto Rasch.
It was carried out by Sonderkommando 4a soldiers led by its commander SS Brigadefuhrer Dr. Otto Rasc and the officer commanding Sonderkommando 4a, SS-Standartenfuhrer Paul Blobel along with the aid of the SD and SS Police Battalions backed by the local police.
The implementation of the order was entrusted to Sonderkommando 4a, commanded by Blobel, under the general command of Friedrich Jeckeln. This unit consisted of SD and Sipo, the third company of the Special Duties Waffen-SS battalion, and a platoon of the 9th Police Battalion. Police Battalion 45, commanded by Major Besser, conducted the massacre, supported by members of a Waffen-SS battalion.
The commander of the Einsatzkommando reported two days later in his own reports
“The difficulties resulting from such a large scale action – in particular concerning the seizure – were overcome in Kiev by requesting the Jewish population through wall posters to move. Although only a participation of approximately 5,000 to 6,000 Jews had been expected at first, more than 30,000 Jews arrived who, until the very moment of their execution, still believed in their resettlement, thanks to an extremely clever organization”.
According to the testimony of truck drivers, victims were ordered to undress and beaten if they resisted:
"I watched what happened when the Jews – men, women, and children – arrived. The Ukrainians led them past a number of different places where one after the other they had to give up their luggage, then their coats, shoes and over-garments and also underwear.
They also had to leave their valuables in a designated place. There was a special pile for each article of clothing. It all happened very quickly and anyone who hesitated was kicked or pushed by the Ukrainians to keep them moving."
"The crowd was large enough that most of the men, women, and children could not have known what was happening until it was too late; by the time they heard the machine gun fire, there was no chance to escape.
All were driven down a corridor of soldiers, in groups of ten, and then shot.
Another truck driver described the scene. "Once undressed, they were led into the ravine which was about 150 meters long and 30 meters wide and a good 15 meters deep … when they reached the bottom of the ravine they were seized by members of the Schutzpolizei and made to lie down on top of Jews who had already been shot.
The corpses were literally in layers. A police marksman came along and shot each Jew in the neck with a submachine gun … I saw these marksmen stand on layers of corpses and shoot one after the other … The marksman would walk across the bodies of the executed Jews to the next Jew, who had meanwhile lain down, and shoot him."

The Nazis invaded Poland September 1939. As of October 1940 they had moved nearly 400,000 Jews into a 3.5 square mile area of Warsaw which normally housed about 160,000 that became known as the Warsaw Ghetto.
A 10 feet high wall was built surrounding the Warsaw Ghetto.
Jews were forbidden to go outside the area or they would be shot on sight and no outside contact was allowed.
Hans Frank, the Nazi Gauleiter (governor) of occupied Poland, declared in 1941,
"I ask nothing of the Jews except that they should disappear."
The Nazis refused to allow enough food into the ghetto forcing them to survive on a bowl of soup a day. A ration card provided 300 calories per day.
300 to 400 persons started to die each day from starvation and disease. As of July 1942 about 80,000 Jews had perished.
July 22, 1942, the SS, following orders from Reichsführer Heinrich Himmler, began a massive "resettlement" of Jews taking them out of the ghetto to extermination camps (primarily Treblinka) where they were to be killed by gassing.
In just two months, a total of 310,322 Jews were sent to their deaths in Nazi extermination camps.
By the end of September only 60,000 Jews remained. January 1943, Himmler ordered the SS to remove the remaining 60,000 Jews from the ghetto by February 15.
The remaining Jews by now knew that deportation meant death and chose to resist.
A Jewish Fighting Organization formed of 22 groups each having 20 to 30 men, boys and some women.
Anti Nazi Poles sent them minimal weapons but 20 Germans were killed and 50 wounded by attacking from locations such as roofs and cellars.
In the spring, Himmler ordered the SS to conduct a "special action" against the Jews that would clear out the entire ghetto in just three days.
By now, the size of the ghetto had been reduced to an area measuring only 1,000 yards by 300 yards.
April 19, 1943 which was the Jewish holiday Passover, over 2000 Waffen SS soldiers under the command of SS General Jürgen Stroop attacked with tanks, artillery and flame throwers.
An intense battle erupted between heavily armed Germans and about 1,200 Jews armed with smuggled in pistols, rifles, a few machine guns, grenades and Molotov cocktails.
The first attack was fought back by the Jews leaving 12 Germans dead.
The Germans again attacked but found it hard to kill or capture small battle groups of Jews, who would fight, then retreat through a maze of cellars, sewers and other hidden passageways to escape capture in what we would now call a guerilla war.
On the fifth day of the battle, an angry Himmler ordered the SS to go through the ghetto "with the greatest severity and relentless tenacity."
SS General Stroop decided to burn down the entire ghetto, block by block. German forces resorted to systematically burning down the ghetto, building by building, prompting thousands of surviving Jews and fighters to take cover in underground bunkers or the sewer system. Many were forced out of their hiding places by troops who dropped in smoke bombs. The picture to the right in part shows what was left.
A report filed by Stroop described the situation:
"The Jews stayed in the burning buildings until because of the fear of being burned alive they jumped down from the upper stories with their bones broken, they still tried to crawl across the street into buildings which had not yet been set on fire despite the danger of being burned alive the Jews and bandits often preferred to return into the flames rather than risk being caught by us."
On May 8, the Germans discovered a large dugout located at Miła 18 Street, which served as ŻOB's main command post. Most of the organisation's remaining leadership and dozens of others committed a mass suicide by ingesting cyanide.
The Jews in Warsaw resisted for a total of 28 days.
The suppression of the uprising officially ended on 16 May 1943, with the demolition of the Great Synagogue of Warsaw.
An estimated 7,000 Jews perished during the uprising itself.
SS General Stroop sent a battle report stating,
"The former Jewish quarter of Warsaw is no longer in existence. The large scale action was terminated at 2015 hours by blowing up the Warsaw synagogue. Total number of Jews dealt with: 56,065, including both Jews caught and Jews whose extermination can be proved."
Polish sources later estimated 300 Germans were killed and 1000 wounded.
Stroop was captured by American forces hiding like a coward in the uniform of a regular German Army infantry officer with false discharge papers.
He was tried and sentenced to death by a US Military Tribunal for summary execution of Allied airmen shot down over Germany in his area of command.
He was then extradited for another trial to Poland where a Polish court sentenced him to death. Stroop was hanged in March 1952.
The brutality of the Nazi's during the Warsaw Ghetto uprising is revealed as well in the Wola Massacre which was part of the Nazi suppression of the Warsaw Uprising.
In a campaign to crush dissents and intimidate the local population, soldiers of the Dirlewanger Division of the 36th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS which was comprised of ex convicts and foreign volunteers, gang raped children and played catch with live babies.
The Nazis also hacked off captives' arms, dousing them with gasoline, and set them alight to run armless and flaming through the streets of Warsaw.
The Wola Massacre claimed the lives of between 40,000 and 100,000 Polish civilians and POWs, and was the largest single mass killing in Poland during World War II.
Working with police units, the Direlanger Division helped to round up and shoot about 40,000 civilians in just two days.
Nazi troops burned homes, raped civilians and attacked patients in hospitals.
Prior to the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, the Dirlewanger Division was notorious for committing massacres, rape and looting across Europe.
In the early days of the division, members of Dirlewanger injected a group of young Jewish girls with strychnine through hypodermic needles for their own entertainment.
Nazi leadership promoted the division for these efforts.
Other Jewish Ghettos established by the Nazi's whose residents in the end also fought back with resistance groups but who met similar fates in the end included those in the cities of Vilnius and Minsk.
"ORDINARY" GERMAN PARTICIPATED IN THE HOLOCAUST...INCLUDING 500,000 YOUNG WOMEN
As documented in "Hitler's Furies: German Women In The Nazi Killing Fields" published October 2013, a morally “lost generation” of young women, born into a defeated, tumultuous post–World War I Germany, and then swept up in the nationalistic fervor of the Nazi movement—a twisted political awakening that turned to genocide. These young women—nurses, teachers, secretaries, wives, and mistresses—saw the emerging Nazi empire as a kind of “wild east” of career and matrimonial opportunity, and yet could not have imagined what they would witness and do there.
Based on twenty years of archival and field work on the Holocaust, access to post-Soviet documents, and interviews with German witnesses, the autor presents overwhelming evidence that these women were more than “desk murderers” or comforters of murderous German men: that they went on “shopping sprees” for Jewish-owned goods and also brutalized Jews in the ghettos of Poland, Ukraine, and Belarus; that they were present at killing-field picnics, not only providing refreshment but also taking their turn at the mass shooting. And Lower uncovers the stories, perhaps most horrific, of SS wives with children of their own, whose female brutality is as chilling as any in history.
The Nazi women who were every bit as evil as the men: From the mother who shot Jewish children in cold blood to the nurses who gave lethal injections in death camps. Chilling new book has unearthered thousands of complicit German women. At least half a million witnessed and contributed to Hitler's terror Have been dubbed the ‘primary witnesses of the Holocaust’. Secretaries typed the orders to kill and filed the details of massacres. Only a small number of women were called to account for their crimes.
Hitler’s German women who could go from being warm-hearted mothers one minute to cold-blooded killers the next. Irma Grese (pictured on left hand side) was a concentration camp guard responsible for multiple murders.
She was hanged in 1945 at the age of 22 and was one of the few women who were called to account for their atrocious crimes.
Johanner Altvater (top) and Liselotte Meirer (bottom) killed Jews for sport during the Third Reich.
In another chilling example, “blonde German housewife Erna Petri was returning home after a shopping trip in town when something caught her eye: six small, nearly naked boys huddled in terror by the side of the country road. Married to a senior SS officer, the 23-year-old knew instantly who they were. They must be the Jews she’d heard about — the ones who’d escaped from a train taking them to an extermination camp. But she was a mother herself, with two children of her own. So she humanely took the starving, whimpering youngsters home, calmed them down and gave them food to eat. Then she led the six of them — the youngest aged six, the oldest 12 — into the woods, lined them up on the edge of a pit and shot them methodically one by one with a pistol in the back of the neck.”
ALL THAT IS NECESSARY FOR EVIL TO TRIUMPH IS FOR GOOD MEN TO DO NOTHING
HISTORY DOES NOT REPEAT ITSELF, BUT IT RHYMES
The forces that would deny the Holocaust and the millions who died within it, are as guilty as the original perpetrators and will be judged by G-d on the same basis.
There are unfortunately already some European countries where the Holocaust can no longer be freely taught in schools due to demographic pressure from other groups who want to ignore or deny the Holocaust. Increasingly there is anti Semitism and difficulty for Jewish students, organizations, speakers and courses on many major U.S. college campuses, not just those in Europe.
In 2013 The Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA) of the European Union conducted a survey “JEWISH PEOPLE’S EXPERIENCES AND PERCEPTIONS OF HATE CRIME, DISCRIMINATION AND ANTI-SEMITISM”. It is the largest survey of its type, covering countries in which 90% of European Jews live - Britain, France, Hungary, Sweden, Belgium, Germany, Italy and Latvia. Its preliminary results were published in November 2013. [5.ak]
The report details that Europe’s Jews Feel Increasingly Threatened And Abused, Fearing Anti-Semitic Abuse From Muslim Extremists, The Extreme Right-Wing, And Left-Wing Radicals.
- 75% of Jews questioned believe anti-Semitism is on the rise
- Close to 33% have considered emigrating because they don't feel safe
- 34% in Sweden and 29% in France said they never wear a Star of David or anything else that could signal their religion
- 7% of the 5,847 respondents experienced some form of anti-Semitic physical attack or threats in the last five years.
- 22% of respondents sometimes avoid “Jewish events or sites” because of safety concerns.
- These figures are overall European totals. The specific UK totals are likely to be generally less alarming, but it remains to be seen if they will be substantially different.
- The most striking figures released thus far concern Belgium, France and Hungary, where between 40% and 50% of respondents said that they had considered emigrating because they do not feel safe.
- 26% of respondents experienced anti-Semitic harassment at least once in the year before the survey. This rose to 34% over the past five years.
- 76% of victims of anti-Semitic harassment, 64% of victims of physical attack or threats, and 52% of victims of vandalism did not report the incident to the police, nor to any other organization.
A recent study published in 2011 indicated that 40% of US Jewish college students surveyed have experienced anti Semitism on campus.[2a]
Many books currently used in US schools and colleges are a major source of biased anti-Israeli teaching. In the 1990s study "Rewriting History in Textbooks", it was reported that eighteen of the most widely used history textbooks in American high schools were found to be "full of factual errors, oversimplification, omission, and distortion, consistently to the detriment of Jews and Israel”. This inevitably leads to the conclusion that the authors are prejudiced.…. high schools are, as far as anti-Israeli teaching is concerned, even worse than universities”. [1c]
Often, those individuals and forces who are anti Semitic hide behind the guise of just being anti Israel and claim that they are anti Zionist and not anti Semitic.
But, as Dr.Martin Luther King said: “When people criticize Zionists, they mean Jews. You are talking anti-Semitism".
"Plain and Simple: Anti-Zionism Is Anti-Semitism" [4a]. There is no daylight between the anti-Zionist and the anti-Semite. A report in the August 2006 issue of the Journal of Conflict Resolution by the Yale School of Management in collaboration with its Institute for Social and Policy Studies, concludes that the statistical link between anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism can no longer be denied. [4b]
Jewish philosopher and theologian Emil Fackenheim has outlined three stages of anti-Semitism: “You cannot live among us as Jews,” leading to forced conversions; “You cannot live among us,” leading to mass deportations; and “You cannot live,” leading to genocide.
Amnon Rubinstein, patron of the Israeli Shinui party and author of "From Herzl to Rabin: The Changing Image of Zionism", has added a fourth stage: “You cannot live in a state of your own,” which leads to boycott, divestment, sanctions, biased reporting, pro forma support of the Palestinians, and calls for the delegitimation, territorial reduction, and in some cases even the disappearance of Israel as we know it.[4c] This last step is reflected in the statements of many movements, governments, events and news headlines of today concerning Israel.
In "Why The Jews? The Reason for Anti Semitism" Dennis Prager and Joseph Telushkin similarly point out that: The contention that anti-Zionists are not enemies of Jews, despite the advocacy of policies that would lead to the mass murder of Jews, is, to put it as generously as possible, disingenuous. … Given, then, that if anti-Zionism realized its goal, another Jewish holocaust would take place, attempts to draw distinctions between anti-Zionism and antisemitism are simply meant to fool the naïve. [4d]
Today there is a confluence of anti Semitism coming not only from the extreme right, but also the extreme left, nationalist movements, government officials (in particular in western Europe and the Mideast), academia, prominent individuals and certain organized religions, some of it subtle, some of it overt including words and phrases reminiscent of Nazi propaganda against the Jews. One has only to look at or listen to the internet, TV, radio or newspapers as recently as November/December 2011 and even January 1 2012.
The technology that exists today such as computers, cellphones, GPS, the internet, facial recognition software, biometrics, DNA testing and weapons including WMD could make the onset of another Holocaust far more rapid and horrifyingly more effective than that perpetrated by the Nazi's.
How cavalier is the Holocaust treated today in many quarters?…just 2 examples. A Munich tour company website [Jan 7 2012] has a list of numerous tours, yet placed the Dachau Memorial tour directly beneath 2 tours regarding Hitler and the 3rd Reich, both immediately below the Beer and Brewery Tour…in its own way trivializing the event. They repeat this by listing at the bottom of the webpage a category grouping “Hitler`s Munich Tour -Munich-Dachau-Memorial-concentration camp. Third Reich Tour”.
In January 2012, a gym business advertised its new location in Dubai with a picture of Auschwitz and the caption “Kiss Your Calories Goodbye”. The ad was posted to the companies Facebook page and rapidly spread via Twitter and the internet. After the Anti Defamation League (ADL) and others protested it, the ad was withdrawn with an apology from the company owner, a 32 year old anglo named European who had posted them. He said he used an image of Auschwitz to advertise weight-loss and exercise classes because "it's like a calorie concentration camp." [8a,b]
There are other instances of advertising programs using references to the Holocaust from more famous businesses based in Canada, Italy and elsewhere, including a new upscale sneaker named Zyklon (which was the gas used by the Germans to kill victims in the concentration camps). The sneaker name was changed after the company was made aware of the issue.
The passage of time, lack of education about and the trivilization of the Holocaust from several quarters all contribute to the lack of awareness and/or sensitivity that leads to such advertisements which for the most part are generated by younger generations. This hi-lites the need to increase education efforts among the next generations as the Holocaust itself increasingly becomes a distant past.
The Anti Defamation Leaque said of the above ad using a picture of Auschwitz “We are increasingly troubled by both the ignorance and mindset of a generation that appears to be so distant from a basic understanding of the Holocaust that it seems acceptable to use this horrific tragedy as a gimmick to bring attention to promoting losing weight,” “What do we have to do to educate and impart to current and future generations the perils of bigotry, racism, discrimination and anti-Semitism?” [8a]
Jews, it is often said, are the canary in the coal mine of civilization. Hence, Jews and all others need to be especially observant and on guard today against the potential of events ever again evolving to such a horror.
When Jews become the objects of savagery and hate, it means the air has been poisoned and an explosion is soon to come. When civilized nations fail to rise up against the Jew-haters in their midst, it is often just a matter of time before the Jew-haters in their midst rise up against them.
This was the essence of the famous quote from Pastor Niemoller during the Nazi period which is in the frame near the top of this page..."Then they came for the Jews, but I was not a Jew so I did not speak out. And when they came for me, there was no one left to speak out for me."
Unfortunately, little has changed despite the Holocaust and history could very well repeat itself.
DON'T SAY "IT CANNOT HAPPEN HERE TODAY" (IN THE U.S.)
No. this is not Berlin or Munich in 1930. It is West Boca Raton, Florida, May 2006.
Unfortunately, while history does not repeat itself it does rhyme and anti Semitism hides behind many guises. American Jews have yet to recognize that they are not immune from what happening in Europe and elsewhere....it can happen here. The anti Semitism hiding behind the anti Zionist strategy used so successfully in Europe and the Middle East is now ramping up rapidly on many American college campuses.
One has only to look to what is happening on U.S. College campuses regarding virulent anti Semitism and anti Zionist movements. According to a major survey, 40% of U.S Jewish college students have experienced anti Semitism on campus.
The American Nazi Party in 2012 felt so emboldened that it registered its first lobbyist in Washington DC.
Too many have forgotten how strong the pro Nazi and anti Semitic German American Bund was in the US during the 1930’s.
In the 1930’s anti Semitism existed on the extreme right, it also existed in much of the general population. Today, this is compounded as well by anti Semitism from the extreme left and from radical Islamist elements now in the US and Europe. As in the 1930's, it may begin with the often vile words of radical rightwing Skinheads, radical Marxists or radical Islamic supported student groups often copied directly from Nazi anti Semitic propaganda. But, where does it potentially lead?
As in the 1930's, words run the risk of becoming deeds unless as Edmund Burke said in the 1700's is remembered "All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing".
And as noted by so many through history, Jews tend to be the canaries in the coal mine of civilizations. As Pastor Martin Niemoller observed during the Nazi era, what befalls the Jews, eventually befalls others as well when no one says anything to defend the Jews, thinking it is just about the Jews and they are immune from the same treatment.
EGYPT BANS THE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD AND OTHER ISLAMIC COUNTRIES SUPPRESS IT DUE TO IT FOMENTING MUSLIM ON MUSLIM VIOLENCE IN THE MIDDLE EAST
THE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD IS ALSO COMPLETELY INTOLERANT OF AND ATTACKS JEWS AND CHRISTIANS
THE FORCES THAT HELPED FORGE THE RESURGENCE OF ANTI SEMITISM IN EUROPE ARE NOW IN THE U.S. IN FORCE
The news headline in October 2013 read: Jew-Hating Comic Book: Foreskin Man. The backers of a ballot initiative in San Francisco aiming to ban circumcision in that city have consistently maintained that their efforts are not anti-Semitic.
But the “Foreskin Man” comic book, which was written and edited in 2010 by the founder of a San Diego group supporting efforts to ban circumcision in San Francisco and Santa Monica, gives further credence to the accusation that so-called intactivists are in fact motivated by anti-Semitism.
“The imagery in ‘Foreskin Man’ is functionally Anti-Semitic,” Abby Michelson Porth, associate director of the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC), said.
“The motives of the proponents of this ban are questionable given their direct connection with “Foreskin Man.”
The story told in the second issue of “Foreskin Man,” which is available on its website, centers on the story of Sarah and Jethro Glick and their newborn son. Sarah thought that she and her husband had agreed not to circumcise their son, but Jethro had other plans. He secretly invited the villain, “Monster Mohel,” to circumcise “little Glick.” On the website foreskinman.com, Monster Mohel, a bearded man with a black hat on his head and a tallis around his neck, is described this way: “Nothing excites Monster Mohel more than cutting into the penile flesh of an eight-day-old infant boy.” October 9 2013
A SAD COMMENTARY NOT FROM THEN BUT NOW
“MEIN KAMPF” TOPS AMAZON CHARTS.
For a year now, his magnum manifesto has loomed large over current bestsellers on iTunes, where at the time of this writing (January 2014) two different digital versions of Mein Kampf rank 12th and 15th on the Politics & Current Events On Amazon there are more than 100 versions of Mein Kampf for sale in every conceivable print and audio format, from antique hardbacks to brand-new paperbacks. Of those 100 iterations, just six are e-books—yet all six of them rank among the 10 best-selling versions overall. And those are just the ones people are paying for. As tablets gained popularity in the late-2000s, the e-book’s presence grew and then soared. Besides the iTunes and Kindle-compatible versions, hundreds of txt and PDF files are available for download from thousands of online sources. More than a dozen free English-language versions of Mein Kampf have been downloaded in excess of 100,000 times from the nonprofit Internet Archive alone.
THE US IS EXPERIENCING A DRAMATIC RISE IN ANTI SEMITISM, ESPECIALLY ON COLLEGE CAMPUSES WITH UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA AND CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY CAMPUSES NOTABLY STANDING OUT.
A leader of the ‘National Students for Justice in Palestine’ movement in the United States once stated that “the destruction of the Jewish state and its replacement by a Palestinian one will come about through the American college system”

"In The Past The Most Dangerous Anti Semites Were Those That Wanted To Make The World Free Of Jews. Today, The Most Dangerous Anti Semites Might Be Those Who Want To Make The World Free Of A Jewish State." As With Anti Semitism, Anti Israel Activities Start With Delegitimization Of A People Or A Country. Per Olmark former Prime Minister of Sweden

BDS IS ADOPTING THE SAME STRATEGY AGAINST THE JEWS AS THE NAZI'S
Don't Buy From The Jews....Then and Now. Nazi Brown Shirts, Berlin, 1930's and BDS Today in the US and Europe...the Strategy is the Same...So is the Anti Semitism Now Hiding Behind What Has Become a Socially Acceptable Term... Anti Zionism
As Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz recently said in late December 2013:
There are those who claim that the BDS movement against Israel cannot be anti-Semitic, because it is directed at a country and not at individuals. But by treating Israel as the Jew among nations – singling it out for condemnation when others are far worse by any relevant standard – the advocates of BDS are simply expanding the notion of anti-Semitism beyond the individual to the nation state of the Jewish people. When Nazis condemned “Jewish physics,” “Jewish art” and “Jewish business practices,” they too claimed that they were focusing on Jewish institutions rather than Jewish individuals. The hypocrisy and anti Semitism of Israel boycotters is further described by author Edward Alexander in his recent article concerning the tireless enemies of Israel being America’s academic boycotters from the new left who have carried on an joined Europeans who found a way to make anti Semitism socially acceptable by directing their attacks on Israel. In a late December 2013, the Washington Post, the second most influential newspaper in the U.S., condemned US Academic organization boycott of Israel. Editorial page editors refer to the boycott as "terribly misguided," "narrow minded," and "fundamentally wrong." The editorial also blasted the ASA for condemning Israel when it fails to condemn countries like China, Saudi Arabia and Cuba for their human rights violations, and referred to Israel as "a lively and durable democracy." The internet posting below, one of several in the series, says it all with pictures and few words.
In 2011 the Sassoon International Center for the Study of Antisemitism published an important research paper by Stephen H. Norwood, titled “Antisemitism in the Contemporary American University: Parallels With the Nazi Era” (see PDF 2n in references below).
The paper casts valuable light on the current situation in the United States. Norwood reveals that in the 1930s, leading American universities (including Harvard, Yale, Columbia and the Seven Sisters chain of colleges) helped to legitimatize anti-Semitism by welcoming Nazi leaders to their campuses.
Moreover, American university administrators almost never responded to the vitriolic anti-Semitic statements made on campus by Hitler’s diplomatic or student representatives, nor did they react to American apologists for the Nazi regime.
That this situation continues in the current period is illustrated by an 80 page November 2005 report by the US Civil Rights Commission entitled Campus Anti Semitism (click here for PDF). The report found anti Semitism to be relatively common, Jewish students were subjected to verbal and physical abuse for their religion or pro Israel stances, and, Islamic Student Groups often engaged in activities involving duplication of Nazi era propaganda against Jews. An example is the image to the right which is the historical blood libel against Jews.
In July 2012, a report released by the University of California Advisory Council on Campus Climate, Culture, and Inclusion found that “Jewish students are confronting significant and difficult climate issues as a result of activities on campus which focus specifically on Israel, its right to exist and its treatment of Palestinians.” “The anti-Zionism and Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movements and other manifestations of anti-Israel sentiment and activity create significant issues,” the report added.
As noted by Leila Beckwith in “Anti Semitism at University of California” in the January 16 2012 issue of the Journal of Anti Semitism [see PDF 2l in references below], “Anti-Semitic speech and actions have occurred on the University of California (UC) campuses for more than ten years, initiated by registered Muslim and pro-Palestinian student groups and some faculty.”
|Above are examples of anti Israel activities on University of California Irvine campus driven by the Muslim Student Union, Pro Palestinian and extreme left wing organizations that have made the campus intolerable in terms of anti Semitic activities for Jews. Pro Israel speakers are not invited or are heckled to the point where they cannot speak. The Universities administration had stood by these activities and done nothing to protect Jewish students or free speech of those with pro Israel views on campus.|
In late 2012 the situation grew to the point where the California State Assembly passed a resolution calling on the University of California to stop the anti Semitism and harassment of Jewish students on several of its campuses. The University rejected the resolution calling it free speech.
Kenneth L. Marcus, director of the Sassoon Institute for Study of Anti Semitism Initiative on Antisemitism and Anti-Israelism, in the Journal for the Study of Antisemitism, Volume 2, Issue #1, 2010 (see PDF 2m in references below], noted that there is a persistant hostile environment for Jewish students at the University of California Irvine campus near Los Angeles.
At Irvine, from 2001 to the present, the Muslim Student Union (MSU), and sometimes the Society of Arab Students (SAS), have sponsored on a persistent basis virulently anti-Zionist/anti-Semitic events on campus.
The speakers used classic anti-Semitic themes, and demonized Israel and Jews with Nazi comparisons.
Some Jewish students were harassed and intimidated. When they asked for help from the UC Irvine administration, it was not given.
In 2010, a Jewish student at UC-Berkeley was rammed with a shopping cart for protesting “Israel Apartheid Week.”
Incredibly, despite her injuries, a local Judge ruled that her being rammed with the shopping cart was free speech on the part of the person who rammed her with it. Swastikas have also been discovered at UC-Davis and UC-Irvine in recent years.
An action that exemplifies the attitude of college officials in California is that Manzar Foroohar, a professor connected to the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, was selected to chair a committee aimed at combating anti-Semitism in the California State University (CSU) system!
In July 2013, a pro-BDS (Boycott, Divest And Sanction Israel Movement) student was elected to the University of California Regents Student Board. Such is the unfortunate and ominous state of anti Israel and anti Semitic activity in the California State university system.
The situation is so bad in California that an organization named AMCHA was specifically founded to protect Jewish College Students on University of California and California State University campuses due to the rapidly rising anti Semitism, harassment and even physical attacks on Jewish students by Muslim student groups financed from abroad and by the extreme left supporting the PLO and BDS (the boycott and diverstment from) Israel movements.
A 2012 study titled “Anti Semitic, Anti Israel and Boycott Divestment of Israel on US College Campuses” [ref. 2.o. below] stated:
“A shocking percentage of Jewish students report experiencing anti-Semitism on campus and administrators have shown far less sensitivity to these incidents than persecution of other minorities or women on campus.”
“The most prevalent anti-Israel groups today are the Muslim Students Association (MSA) and Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP). The MSA is affiliated with Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood and institutionally, has historically been hostile toward Israel and Jews.” “ The most serious problem on campus is not from student activities, but from faculty.” “Though left-wing politics on campus today is very different than what it was in the 1960s, campuses remain the most visible home of ideologues of the radical left in America. And to the extent these leftists are anti-Israel, universities offer them their highest profile platform.”
|The Real Intent of the BDS movement.|
The situation is not unique to California universities. There is a hostile environment for Jewish students on the campus of Brooklyn College, of the City University of New York. In February 2013, a BDS Boycott and Divestment from Israel event that was sponsored by the college itself, whereas pro Israel events and anti BDS protestors are suppressed.
The picture to the right is from this February 2013 event. Brooklyn College’s chapter of the far left anti-Israel organization Students for Justice in Palestine that exists nationwide on all major college campuses is the organization that brought the event to campus along with the support of the Muslim Students Association.
The Brooklyn College political science department not only co-sponsored the event but endorsed it.
AND LET US NOT FORGET MEDIA BIAS AGAINST ISRAEL
CLEAR AS THEIR OWN PRINTED AND BROADCAST WORDS
From the globally read Economist printing anti Semitic cartoons, to AFP Agence France Press wire service continuing to defend the false Al Dura story, to the New York Times being an active instrument of the anti Israel crowd by careful editing and what they report/do not report, to the BBC and Guardian being both endlessly and unabashedly both anti Semitic and anti Israel, complicity of the media in the onslaught against Israel and Jews speaks for itself…in their own printed and broadcast words.
And how many have seen CNN report a story neutral to Israel and the Palestinians to their US audience, and, CNN International report the same story with an entirely different anti Israel slant the same day to its European audience.
The ad below from the website CAMERA organization that monitors and addresses anti Semitism and anti Israel activities says it all.
"The recent Time piece on Israel (September 2010) is probably the most anti Semitic essay I have ever read in a mainstream publication". Victor David Hanson (an American military historian, columnist, former classics professor at California State University, scholar of ancient warfare, currently the Martin and Illie Anderson Senior Fellow at Stanford University's Hoover Institution.) September 6 2010.
Anti Defamation League (ADL): "The Time magazine Israel cover story rehashes anti-Semitic lies."
"Abraham Foxman called on the magazine’s editors to issue an apology to readers, both for the timing of the article and its calling up age-old anti-Semitic stereotypes about Jews and money", as the anti Semitism behind the article pierces the veil of an anti Israel article.
As Per Olmark former Prime Minister of Sweden once said. "In the past the most dangeous anti Semites were those that wanted to make the world free of Jews. Today, the most dangerous anti Semites might be those who want to make the world free of a Jewish State." As with anti Semitism, anti Israel activities start with delegitimization of a people or a country.
And, as Martin Luther King once said: "When People Criticize Zionists, They Mean Jews. You Are Talking Anti Semitism"
That anti Semitism is insidious, ingrained and global is illustrated by New Zealand, where the 7,500 Jews that live there represent 0.17% of the population, yet are targeted with anti Semitic acts.
A Jewish cemetery in New Zealand was vandalized in October 2012
Jewish Cemetery Cronenbourgh France vandalized 2013. A newspaper headline from November 26 2013: French Jews Fleeing To Israel To Escape Rising Anti-Semitism, Muslim Extremism, And Economic Crisis. Almost Seven Decades After The Fall Of The Nazi Third Reich, Anti-Semitism Remains An Intractable Problem In Europe. (Click Here for article)
FRANCE 2013: Ever Hear of the “Quenelle”. It is the new French salute that is the reverse of the Nazi salute exchanged between and used symbolically by anti Semites and those who want to destroy Israel. People photographed using it include a leading French soccer player, a leading US NBA basketball player, the leading and anti Semitic French comedian, right wing politicians and left wing and pro PLO movement members. To the left is French soccer star Nicolas Anelka giving the salute at a major soccer game in a filled stadium and the authorities do nothing. To the right is a man with a PLO Shirt giving the Quenelle salute in front of the Ohr Torah Jewish School in Toulouse France where 4 Jews were murdered. U.S. Spurs point guard Tony Parker has been photographed giving the salute with popular (in France) French anti Semitic comedian Dieudonne. Dieudonne, who has multiple convictions for inciting racial hatred against Jews, designed the Quenelle to emulate the Nazi salute without violating France’s laws against displaying Nazi symbols to cause offense. January 6 2014 France moved to ban performances by the controversial comic Dieudonne just days before the start of a nationwide tour of a one-man show containing anti-Semitic material. But, it was because of his threat to public order due to the demonstrations and protests he will generate, not the anti Semitic material that is so much of his act.
THE INTERNET: ANTI SEMITISM, ANTI ZIONISM, HOLOCAUST DENIAL - GOOGLE AND FACEBOOK
The media hi lited January 16 2013, that there was a free Google App that plays Hitler anti Semitic quotes in Arabic. This free application providing users with vile quotes attributed to Hitler is available via Google Play, the app store for Android products. Among the quotes made available to users are “Jews are like the mosquitos that suck our blood.”, “I discovered that the Jews are behind every immorality or crime against society.”, “I could have killed all the Jews in the world, but I spared some of them so you know why I killed the rest.” And “Oh Germans defend yourselves and never buy anything from the Jews.”
Vile anti Semitic websites exist on the internet, some with misleading names to draw in viewers such as http://www.jewwatch.com/. Despite a massive petition and constant requests, Google refuses to remove this and similar websites from its search engine listings citing “free speech”, while at the same time Google removes websites critical of other groups and another specific religion.
With Google's purchase of YouTube in 2006, this practice has now been well documented with YouTube as well, where in response to protests by pro Arab viewers pro Israeli sites are far more often taken down and it takes considerably more pressure and often public media exposure pressure to get YouTube to take down anti Israel and anti Semitic Jihad YouTube videos.
This is illustrated by an article published April 11 2013 by Palestinian Media Watch “Facebook Removes Palestinian Media Watch Expose Of Young Girl Calling Jews 'Descendants Of Pigs'” on Arab TV children’s program (click here for article).
The video posted by Palestinian Media Watch to hi lite the ongoing and multi generation Arab promotion of anti Semitism in children was removed by Google (which owns YouTube), which leaves anti Israel, anti Semitic and anti Israel videos up when they are posted by Arab and anti Israel right and left organizations. The video was restored only after pressure to do so.
The video can be viewed below. The words of special note start at about 1 minute but the entire video should be watched. What a shameful education of young children to hate. (Click on arrow in middle of video frame below to start video)
FaceBook as well has come under criticism for censoring and even taking down pages that expose anti Semitism, are pro Israel and present information pointing out Arab anti Semitism,
However, FaceBook for some reason will leave up pages that are anti Semitic, anti Zionist, deny the Holocaust occurred or are pro Islamic terrorist.
It takes an enormous effort to get FaceBook to take such pages down.
An example of the numerous graphics, drawing and cartoons that are anti Semitic is show to the right. Most are even more extreme then this.
FaceBook leaves up pages from even the terror organization Fatah that explicitly promote terror against Jews and Israeli's, and, allowed Al Qaeda to have its own pages.
For several articles on FaceBook concerning this subject which has come to be called "FaceBook's Anti Semitism problem", click here, here and here.
ITALY AND GREECE.... JUST A SIGN OF THE GROWING TREND IN EUROPE
In Italy, Beppe Grillo, founder and charismatic leader of the 5 Star Movement which has received more than 25 % of the total votes in 2013, has a history of anti Semitic rants and how he finds Israel “frightening”.
As reported in the media, his statements have yet to create much of a concern in Italy where anti-Jewish and other racial slurs can find a surprisingly high level of tolerance.
Greece's neo-nazi Golden Dawn nationalist party adopted a modification of the Swastika as their symbol and flag. The far right party has forged links with British neo-nazi’s and has begun opening offices in Germany, Australia, Canada and the US. Successive polls that show golden dawn entrenching its position as Greece's third and fastest growing political force with 18 Members of Parliament elected 2012 to the Greek Parliament and capturing 11.5% support in a recent survey.
|Familiar Design, Same Hate and Anti Semitism. The flag of the Greek Neo Nazi Golden Dawn nationalist party, Greeces third largest and fastest growing political force.|
Shown to the right from 2012 ! a Golden Dawn poster directly copied from a Nazi anti Semitic poster from the 1930's and 40's (see above section), plus pages from their publication and their flag.
A recent survey in late 2012 indicated that the Greek neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party polled third, at 14 percent — a showing comparable to that of Hitler’s
National Socialist German Workers’ Party in 1930, three years before rising to power and setting the world on course for WWII.
Nikolaos Michaloliakos, The Golden Dawn Greek Neo Nazi Party founder in May 2012 told an interviewer that six million did not die in the Nazi Holocaust.
He called the figure an exaggeration. “There were no ovens. This is a lie…there were no gas chambers, either” - Nikolaos.
Despite the Golden Dawn words, posters, publications and flag shown to the right, the President of the European Commission refuses to define Golden Dawn as a ‘neo-Nazi’ party which speaks volumes about the European commission and EU attitudes towards anti Semitism.
The Jewish population in Greece is only 5,000 out of a total population of 11 million, which says volumes about the historically deep rooted and inculcated pan European psyche of anti Semitism.
Greece of course is far from the exception as evidenced by the rising if not raging anti Semitism often hiding behind Anti Israel rhetoric from both the right and left in other EU countries.
The Hungarian Jobbik party touts “Freedom from Zionism”. Jobbik is now Hungary’s third largest political party.
The level of anti Semitism in Hungary has risen to such a level that a large percentage of the Jews in Hungary are seriously thinking of emigrating from the country to safety elsewhere.
Examples of other countries with high and rising levels of anti Semitism that standout are France, Britain, Italy, Belgium, Norway, Finland and Sweden.
ANTI SEMITISM IN THE ARAB MIDDLE EAST
The anti Israel and anti Semitic attitudes of the Arab world have deep roots which existed long before the State of Israel came into existance.
As an example, in 1941, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem Haj Amin al-Husseini fled to Germany and met with Adolf Hitler, Heinrich Himmler, Joachim Von Ribbentrop and other Nazi leaders.
One of many infamous pictures of the Grand Mufti meeting with Hitler is to the right.
He wanted to persuade them to extend the Nazis’ anti-Jewish program to the Arab world.
In November 1941, the Mufti met with Hitler, who told him the Jews were his foremost enemy. (13)
In 1945, Yugoslavia sought to indict the Mufti as a war criminal for his role in recruiting 20,000 Muslim volunteers for the SS, who participated in the killing of Jews in Croatia and Hungary.
He escaped from French detention in 1946, however, and continued his fight against the Jews from Cairo and later Beirut. He died in 1974.
When the State of Israel was born in 1948, the surrounding Arab nations immediately attacked it with their combined armies, which had been trained by the British as a result to and followup to World War II.
Moving to the present, given the omnipresence of anti Semitism coupled with a desire to destroy the State of Israel in the Arab world as evidenced by their many wars against Israel, terrorism against Israeli civilians and that is visible in their TV and radio broadcasts as well as newspapers, little needs to be said here about it.
It is summed up by Iran's Ahmadinajad calling for the annilation of Israel, Palestinian children being shown from kindergarten on up with guns and being indoctrinated to hate and kill Jews (as well as Christians) and to become martyrs for the cause of liberating Israel from the Jews from a very young age (click here to see 2 TV videos).
Also see the pictures to the right of Palestinian kindergarten event with children in battle fatigues with toy assault rifles, and, of older children with real AK-47's shepherded by adults in a parade. What parent in the western world would train their kindergarten and older children to kill and to die as martyrs?
Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh announced January 24 2013 that Hamas is is establishing a military academy for Gaza schoolchildren. The inaugural academy in Gaza Strip will prepare children as young as 12 years old for "liberating Palestine," establish Palestinian state "from the river to the sea".
More than 10,000 kids attended a military parade in December 2012 to celebrate the founding of Hamas, dressed in military fatigues and holding toy or real guns depending on age. (see picture to right from parade).
There is an open display of anti Semitism for Arabic versus English speaking audiences on TV and at demonstrations or parades by leading figures in the Arab world.
One recent example being statements by Egypt's new President Morsi of the Muslim Brotherwood who in two 2010 TV videos stated that Arabs should "nurse their children on the hatred of Jews”, and, in another Al Quds TV video referred to Jews as "the Descendants of Apes and Pigs".
Another example (above) are the anti Semitic words of this young child on Palestinian TV which speak for themselves. Inculcating hate at this young age can only lead to more conflict, not peace.......and hatred such as anti Semitism always begins with the innocent children....and is perpetuated by adults they trust teaching it to the children who then lose without choice their innocence. eligious hate speech for children on PA TV. (Click on arrow in middle of video frame below to start video)
In July 2013, PA TV invited two small girls to recite a poem that included Islam-based hate speech and Anti-Semitism (click on and watch video below):
"You who murdered Allah's pious prophets (i.e., Jews in Islamic tradition)
Oh, you who were brought up on spilling blood
You have been condemned to humiliation and hardship
Oh Sons of Zion, oh most evil
Oh barbaric monkeys, wretched pigs."
NOBEL PRIZES VS. BOYCOTT, TEACHING HATE AND TERRORISM
The Global Jewish population is approximately 14,000,000 (Only FOURTEEN MILLION or about 0.02% (ONE FIFTH OF ONE PERCENT) of the world's population).
Since the Nobel Prize was first awarded in 1901 through year end 2013, 193 of the 855 Nobel Prize winners have been Jewish (22.5%) and in 2013 6 of 12 Nobel Prize winners were Jewish. 12 of the total number of Nobel Prizes were awarded to Israeli’s.
In contrast, the Global Islamic population is approximately 1,300,000,000 (ONE BILLION THREE HUNDRED MILLION) or 20% (TWENTY PERCENT) of the world's population as of year end 2013.
Muslims received 10 (ten) Nobel prizes since they were first awarded.
Hamas Trains 13,000 Teens to Follow in the Footsteps of the
13,000 high school students participated in a week-long training camp
geared to enable the teenagers "to follow in the footsteps of the
suicide martyrs." The "Pioneers of Liberation" camp included weapons
training, marching exercises, and "security awareness" classes. Hamas
is engaging in a widespread campaign to raise the next generation of
youth to embrace hatred and terrorism as legitimate modus operandi.
Instead of devoting time and resources to developing their society,
Hamas is teaching its youth to kill. The Palestinian Islamic Jihad has
its own camp with a similar emphasis on glorifying terrorist attacks.
January 15 2014
As former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir said so many years ago:
Peace Will Come When the Arabs Love Their Children More Then They Hate Us.
all of the energy, time and money the Islamic nations, Palestinian
territory multiple ruling governments, NGO’s and anti Zionist movements
like BDS invest in hating and trying to destroy Israel, the only Jewish
nation, could have been and should be spent on the standard academic
education of their children that creates positive contributions to the
world equal to that of the Jews and Israel in medical, engineering, technical, computer, agricultural and other fields.
Let us all pray, be witnesses and through educating succeeding generations keep the memory of these events and the victims alive, so that the horror of the Holocaust is never repeated in the future for anyone because of their religion, ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, political belief or medical condition.
A PERSONAL ANECDOTE FROM THE WEBMASTER - MY MEETING WITH A FORMER MEMBER OF THE NAZI SS IN THE EARLY 1980'S
One of the customers I used to visit on trips to Germany in the early 1980’s was a Director at a major company. He knew I was Jewish based on previous discussions. On my frequent trips there, he and another manager would sometimes take me out to a local beer garden and there was much camaraderie. One day after "several rounds of beer" he told me as a young man he had been in the Nazi SS and became an SS Panzer tank commander. He enthusiastically talked about what great tank fighters the Israeli’s had been in the 1973 war. I asked him how he could reconcile praising the Israeli’s and spending so much time working and toasting in a beer garden with me, a Jew, given he had been in the Nazi SS. His simple, short and cold answer to it all has stayed with me ever since then, it is the story of history, and, is also a warning that all could just as easily tip to the other side of that thin razor's edge civilization exists on...what he told me without any emotion was …
“that was then, this is now”
...as if nothing had happened.....
and then he toasted me again with his beer stein and returned to talking about work.
"That was then, this is now". The entrance to Auschwitz II - Birkenau today. Families with baby strollers arriving and leaving. One wonders what the unseen "ghosts" of those that arrived but never left seven decades ago during the Holocaust are thinking now.

“I wish to declare that the Government of Israel will not ask any nation, be it near or far, mighty or small, to recognize our right to exist. The right to exist? It would not enter the mind of any Briton or Frenchman, Belgian or Dutchman, Hungarian or Bulgarian, Russian or American, to request for his people recognition of its right to exist. Their existence per se is the right to exist. The same holds true for Israel. We were granted our right to exist by the God of our fathers, at the glimmer of the dawn of human civilization, nearly four thousand years ago. For that right, which has been sanctified in Jewish blood from generation to generation, we have paid a price unexampled in the annals of nations.”
Prime Minister Menachem Begin

|The webmasters work on this specific web page which cumulatively is now over 475 hours of research, writing, programming and uploading, is dedicated to the memory of my grandmother who as a young girl bravely made the journey just with her equally young sister and brother from what was Lithuania (now Belarus) to North America. Had she stayed in the specific village she lived in, she would have become a victim of the Holocaust as was the rest of her entire family pictured to the right, as well as all her cousins, who all perished in the Holocaust... and I would not be here.
This single web page is intended to only be a summary of the Holocaust for reference and review primarily for use in teaching and by students. The full subject of the Holocaust obviously involves far more detail and information than can be provided in such a small space. Readers are encouraged to review and read the large volume of sources, videos, articles and books listed with their URL’s in the REFERENCES AND EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES SECTION below, as well as to seek out and read additional information from the numerous in-depth websites that focus on the events leading up to, during and immediately after the Holocaust
REFERENCES AND EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES
Shoah Foundation This is the effort started and supported by Steven Spielberg the movie Director, to record video/oral histories of Holocaust survivors before their witness to this history is gone forever due to age. The collection is housed by University Southern California.
Holocaust Memorial and Research Center of Central Florida (on North Mailtand Ave), Maitland, FL (just north of Orlando). It is also highly recommended you visit this center which is an easy trip. It is located minutes from areas such as Altamonte and Winter Park.
The link below is to a PDF topview map showing The Villages/Lady Lake area and the location of this facility, with it's address and telephone number.
World Memory Project People who want to find out more about the fate of family members who became victims of the Nazi Holocaust now have a new resource online. The World Memory Project, jointly set up by the US Holocaust Memorial Museum and the website ‘Ancestry.com’, allows people to sift online through documents that previously required a lengthy manual search. The US Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington DC has more than 170 million documents about victims of Nazi persecution, including concentration camp records and transport lists, records created by Jewish communities and US government documents about people displaced by the war who later immigrated to the United States. Once people locate information online about family members, they can request copies of the full documents from the museum. The service is free and will remain so. "This project is about restoring the identities of the victims, the people who the Nazis tried to erase. They – the Nazis - gave them numbers, and we are giving them back their names, and the public can help us do this."
There are obviously massive libraries of videos concerning the Holocaust. These are but a sampling of what exists. A large volume of movies (and pictures) were taken at the time the camps were liberated by the American Army and the allies, and, that is evidence generated by eye witnesses which can never be denied. Please be forewarned that these are graphic and not easy to watch, but, doing so is the only way for the events and victims who perished to remain alive and cointinue to be a part of the historical record and memory.
Films by Allied Soldier Camera Crews of Concentration Camps at the Time of Liberation
This site contains 7 relatively short videos of film shot by allied armies liberating the death camps narrated by Alfred Hitchcock, the famous Jewish film director whose career started in the 1920’s.
The 2 videos below are in color which makes the images even more graphic. The first video presents in part the rise of Hitler and the Nazi Party to power, the rise in terror against the Jews and then the Holocaust.
Among The Best Books on the Holocaust
Links to the Amazon page for each book are provided. Some books listed are for Kindle but are also available in hard cover or paperback.
Night Night is Elie Wiesel's masterpiece, a candid, horrific, and deeply poignant autobiographical account of his survival as a teenager in the Nazi death camps. This new translation by Marion Wiesel, Elie's wife and frequent translator, presents this seminal memoir in the language and spirit truest to the author's original intent. And in a substantive new preface, Elie reflects on the enduring importance of Night and his lifelong, passionate dedication to ensuring that the world never forgets man's capacity for inhumanity to man.
Nazi Germany and the Jews The Nazi onslaught against the Jews shattered an entire universe, leaving random fragments. Good historians like Saul Friedländer do their best to collect the fragments and construct a coherent picture despite missing pieces. In "Nazi Germany and the Jews," Friedländer uses an array of sources, including many first-hand accounts, to portray the unfolding war and Holocaust. He shows us Hitler at the center of the crime. But by giving voice to survivors, he never lets the reader forget that the crime itself was perpetrated not by a single evil leader but by humans against fellow humans.
Ordinary Men In "Ordinary Men," Christopher R. Browning tells the story of the German Reserve Police Battalion 101 and in the process addresses fundamental questions about the motivations of the Holocaust's perpetrators. How did "middle-aged family men of working- and lower-middle-class background from the city of Hamburg" become calloused murderers who killed 38,000 Jews and deported 45,000 more to Nazi death camps? Anti-Semitism certainly was a central cause, Browning says: others included the urge for conformity, the desire for advancement and the fear of appearing weak. One may argue with some of Browning's conclusions, in part because he relies on postwar statements by the criminals themselves, but this book will make any reader stop to ponder the ordinary man's capacity for evil.
The Jews of Warsaw, 1939-1943 An iconic photograph from the Holocaust shows a young boy, with his hands in the air, surrounded by Jewish survivors of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising as a German soldier trains his gun on them. Yisrael Gutman's comprehensive "The Jews of Warsaw, 1939-1943" describes the years leading up to that moment. Beginning in 1940, the Nazis concentrated Jews from the area around Warsaw in the city's Jewish quarter, which became a sort of holding pen -- where thousands would die of starvation and disease -- before they were transported to the Treblinka death camp. Between July and September 1942, more than a quarter-million Jews were shipped from Warsaw to Treblinka. In 1943, an armed revolt by the remaining 55,000 or so remaining Jews held off the Nazis for nearly a month before finally succumbing. Ghetto resident Emmanuel Ringelblum (who would be killed by the Nazis in 1944) organized a project to document daily life in the encircled section of the city, and the surviving archive of diaries, announcements, reports and other artifacts enabled Gutman to create an extraordinary portrait of how Jews thought and lived, fought and died.
If This Is Man One of the most effective survivor accounts of the Holocaust is Primo Levi's "If This Is Man," known to many American readers as "Survival in Auschwitz." His portrayal of the Sisyphean effort to maintain a modicum of cleanliness in Auschwitz goes a long way toward evoking the horrible filth and stench of a brutal world where the smell of burning flesh was constant. Levi shows that, among men reduced by their tormenters to living like beasts, some found ways, at least for a moment, to assert their dignity: "We still possess one power, and we must defend it with all our strength for it is the last -- the power to refuse our consent."
In "The Lost Daniel Mendelsohn takes us on a journey in search of his family history during the years of horror. In so doing, he highlights how difficult it is to determine precisely what happened to individuals in the maelstrom of murder, despite the vast body of documentation we have since collected about the Holocaust. Mendelsohn shows us people at eye level and thereby underscores a central truth: The Holocaust was not some mysterious aberration; it was an event deeply rooted in the story of man
The Unknown Black Book: The Holocaust in the German-Occupied Soviet Territories Distinct from the classic Black Book, which did not include this material, The Unknown Black Book provides, for the first time in English, a revelatory compilation of testimonies from Jews who survived open-air massacres and other atrocities carried out by the Germans and their allies in the occupied Soviet territories during World War II – Ukraine, Belorussia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and the Crimea. These documents, from residents of cities, small towns, and rural areas, are raw, first-hand accounts by survivors of work camps, ghettos, forced marches, beatings, starvation, and disease. Collected under the sponsored direction of two renowned Soviet Jewish journalists, Ilya Ehrenburg and Vasily Grossman, they tell of Jews who lived in pits, walled-off corners of apartments, attics, and basement dugouts, unable to emerge due to fear that their neighbors would betray them, as often happened.
Atlas of the Holocaust Atlas of the Holocaust, the product of seven years' research, is a comprehensive record of the Nazi attempt to annihilate the Jews of Europe during World War II. World-renowned historian Martin Gilbert has drawn each of the 316 maps especially for this atlas. All are fully annotated and are based on documentary evidence from a wide range of sources. The atlas traces each phase of the Holocaust, beginning with the anti-Semitic violence of prewar Germany and leading to the German conquest of countries in which the Jews had lived for centuries. Presented in chronological order, the maps document in compelling detail, month by month and week by week, the story of the Holocaust, from the spread of the early random killings of Jews and their systematic mass expulsion from thousands of towns and villages to the establishment of ghettos and the setting up of the death camps. The atlas ends with the death marches and executions in the final days of the Allied liberation. Also shown on the maps are more than two hundred acts of resistance and revolt, as well as areas of Jewish partisan activity and other avenues of escape and rescue. Many maps tell the stories of hundreds of children deported to their deaths. Others bear witness to individuals active in revolt and tell moving sagas of their courage and defiance.
The Columbia Guide to the Holocaust, Columbia University Press. A multidimensional approach to one of the most important episodes of the twentieth century, The Columbia Guide to the Holocaust offers readers and researchers a general history of the Holocaust while delving into the core issues and debates in the study of the Holocaust today. Each of the book's five distinct parts stands on its own as valuable research aids; together, they constitute an integrated whole. Part I provides a narrative overview of the Holocaust, placing it within the larger context of Nazi Germany and World War II. Part II examines eight critical issues or controversies in the study of the Holocaust, including the following questions: Were the Jews the sole targets of Nazi genocide, or must other groups, such as homosexuals, the handicapped, Gypsies, and political dissenters, also be included? What are the historical roots of the Holocaust? How and why did the "Final Solution" come about? Why did bystanders extend or withhold aid? Part III consists of a concise chronology of major events and developments that took place surrounding the Holocaust, including the armistice ending World War I, the opening of the first major concentration camp at Dachau, Germany's invasion of Poland, the failed assassination attempt against Hitler, and the formation of Israel.
On the Eve: The Jews of Europe Before the Second World War Published 2012 On the Eve is the portrait of a world on the eve of its destruction. Bernard Wasserstein’s original and provocative book presents a new and disturbing interpretation of the collapse of European Jewish civilization even before the Nazi onslaught. Wasserstein shows how the harsh political and social realities of the age devastated the private lives of individuals and families. He demonstrates that, by 1939, the Jews faced an existential crisis that was as much the result of internal decay as of external attack. From Vilna (the “Jerusalem of Lithuania”) to Salonica with its Judeo-EspaÑol-speaking stevedores and singers, and from the Soviet Jewish “homeland” of Birobidzhan to Amsterdam (the “Jerusalem of the west”), the book explores the mindsets of wealthy bankers and far-left revolutionaries, of ultra-orthodox yeshiva bokhers and militant atheists, of cultural revivalists and radical assimilationists. Describing the predicament of the Jews in a continent suffused with anti-Semitism, Wasserstein’s focus is squarely on the Jews themselves rather than their persecutors. His aim, he writes, is to “breathe life into dry bones.” Based on vast research, written with compassion and empathy, and enlivened by dry wit, On the Eve paints a vivid and shocking picture of Europe’s Jews in their final hour.
The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Encyclopedia of Camps and Ghettos, 1933–-1945, Volume 1 This monumental 7-volume encyclopedia, the result of years of work by the Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, will describe the universe of camps and ghettos—some 20,000 in all—that the Nazis and their allies operated, from Norway to North Africa and from France to Russia. For the first time, a single reference work will provide detailed information on each individual site. This first volume covers three groups of camps: the early camps that the Nazis established in the first year of Hitler's rule, the major SS concentration camps with their constellations of subcamps, and the special camps for Polish and German children and adolescents. Overview essays provide context for each category, while each camp entry provides basic information about the site's purpose; the prisoners, guards, working and living conditions; and key events in the camp's history. Material from personal testimonies helps convey the character of the site, while source citations provide a path to additional information. Published 2009
The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Encyclopedia of Camps and Ghettos, 1933-1945, Volume II: Ghettos in German-Occupied Eastern Europe [Hardcover] This volume offers a comprehensive account of how the Nazis conducted the Holocaust throughout the scattered towns and villages of Poland and the Soviet Union. It covers more than 1,150 sites, including both open and closed ghettos. Regional essays outline the patterns of ghettoization in 19 German administrative regions. Each entry discusses key events in the history of the ghetto; living and working conditions; activities of the Jewish Councils; Jewish responses to persecution; demographic changes; and details of the ghetto's liquidation. Personal testimonies help convey the character of each ghetto, while source citations provide a guide to additional information. Documentation of hundreds of smaller sites—previously unknown or overlooked in the historiography of the Holocaust—make this an indispensable reference work on the destroyed Jewish communities of Eastern Europe. Holocaust Literature: A History and Guide (Tauber Institute Series for the Study of European Jewry) [Paperback]
Here, for the first time, is a historical survey of Holocaust literature in all genres, countries, and major languages. Beginning in wartime, it proceeds from the literature of mobilization and mourning in the Free World to the vast literature produced in Nazi-occupied ghettos, bunkers and places of hiding, transit and concentration camps. No less remarkable is the new memorial literature that begins to take shape within weeks and months of the liberation. Moving from Europe to Israel, the United States, and beyond, the authors situate the writings by real and proxy witnesses within three distinct postwar periods: "communal memory," still internal and internecine; "provisional memory" in the 1960s and 1970s, when a self-conscious Holocaust genre is born; and "authorized memory," in which we live today.
Hitler's Furies: German Women In The Nazi Killing Fields Wendy Lower’s stunning account of the role of German women on the World War II Nazi eastern front powerfully revises history, proving that we have ignored the reality of women’s participation in the Holocaust, including as brutal killers. The long-held picture of German women holding down the home front during the war, as loyal wives and cheerleaders for the Führer, pales in comparison to Lower’s incisive case for the massive complicity, and worse, of the 500,000 young German women she places, for the first time, directly in the killing fields of the expanding Reich. Hitler’s Furies builds a fascinating and convincing picture of a morally “lost generation” of young women, born into a defeated, tumultuous post–World War I Germany, and then swept up in the nationalistic fervor of the Nazi movement—a twisted political awakening that turned to genocide. These young women—nurses, teachers, secretaries, wives, and mistresses—saw the emerging Nazi empire as a kind of “wild east” of career and matrimonial opportunity, and yet could not have imagined what they would witness and do there. Lower, drawing on twenty years of archival and field work on the Holocaust, access to post-Soviet documents, and interviews with German witnesses, presents overwhelming evidence that these women were more than “desk murderers” or comforters of murderous German men: that they went on “shopping sprees” for Jewish-owned goods and also brutalized Jews in the ghettos of Poland, Ukraine, and Belarus; that they were present at killing-field picnics, not only providing refreshment but also taking their turn at the mass shooting. Only a small number of women were called to account for their crimes.http://www.amazon.com/Hitlers-Furies-German-Killing-Fields/dp/0547863381/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1380199589&sr=8-1&keywords=Hitler%27s+Furies%3A+German+Women+In+The+Nazi+Killing+Fields

The Devil's Arithmetic In this novel, the author attempts to answer those who question why the Holocaust should be remembered. Hannah, 12, is tired of remembering, and is embarrassed by her grandfather, who rants and raves at the mention of the Nazis. Her mother's explanations of how her grandparents and great-aunt lost all family and friends during that time have little effect. Then, during a Passover Seder, Hannah is chosen to open the door to welcome the prophet Elijah. As she does so, she is transported to a village in Poland in the 1940s, where everyone thinks that she is Chaya, who has just recovered from a serious illness. She is captured by the Nazis and taken to a death camp, where she is befriended by a young girl named Rivka, who teaches her how to fight the dehumanizing processes of the camp and hold onto her identity. When at last their luck runs out and Rivka is chosen, Hannah/Chaya, in an almost impulsive act of self-sacrifice, goes in her stead. As the door to the gas chamber closes behind her, she is returned to the door of her grandparents' apartment, waiting for Elijah.
Important Books About The Holocaust and Related WWII Events One Does Not Often Hear, See or Read About
Trading with the Enemy: the Nazi-American Money Plot 1933-1949 Highly recommended. This perennial classic of political literature remains the only book to document the trading of the American financial establishment with Hitler's Germany in World War II, from Pearl Harbor to V-E Day. Ford supplied tanks to Hitler, the Chase Bank financed the Nazis in Paris, ITT built rocket bombs for Goering and Standard Oil fueled U-boats in the Atlantic.
Nazi Nexus is the long-awaited wrap-up in a single explosive volume that details the pivotal corporate American connection to the Holocaust. The biggest names and crimes are all there. IBM and its facilitation of the identification and accelerated destruction of the Jews; General Motors and its rapid motorization of the German military enabling the conquest of Europe and the capture of Jews everywhere; Ford Motor Company for its political inspiration; the Rockefeller Foundation for its financing of deadly eugenic science and the program that sent Mengele into Auschwitz; the Carnegie Institution for its proliferation of the concept of race science, racial laws, and the very mathematical formula used to brand the Jews for progressive destruction; and others.
IBM and the Holocaust: The Strategic Alliance Between Nazi Germany and America's Most Powerful Corporation. Published February 2012
Newly-released documents expose more explicitly the details of IBM’s pivotal role in the Holocaust—all six phases: identification, expulsion from society, confiscation, ghettoization, deportation, and even extermination. Moreover, the documents portray with crystal clarity the personal involvement and micro-management of IBM president Thomas J. Watson in the company’s co-planning and co-organizing of Hitler’s campaign to destroy the Jews. IBM and the Holocaust is the award-winning, New York Times bestselling shocker--a million copies in print--detailing IBM's conscious co-planning and co-organizing of the Holocaust for the Nazis, all micromanaged by its president Thomas J Watson from New York and Paris. This Expanded Edition offers 37 pages of previous unpublished documents, pictures, internal company correspondence, and other archival materials to produce an even more explosive volume. Originally published to extraordinary praise in 2001, this provocative, award-winning international bestseller has stood the test of time as it chronicles the story of IBM's strategic alliance with Nazi Germany. IBM and the Holocaust provides nothing less than a chilling investigation into corporate complicity. Edwin Black's monumental research exposes how IBM and its subsidiaries helped create enabling technologies for the Nazis, step-by-step, from the identification and cataloging programs of the 1930s to the selections of the 1940s.
Soldiers and Slaves: American POWs Trapped by the Nazis' Final Gamble A former Balkans bureau chief for the New York Times, Cohen recounts the fate of 550 American POWs shipped into eastern Germany during the winter of 1944-1945. Most were Jewish--or appeared Jewish enough to satisfy Nazi officials, who needed to meet labor quotas the dying concentration camp inmates were no longer fit to handle. Less than a hundred days before Hitler killed himself, three hundred and fifty American P.O.W.s—most of whom the Germans had identified as, or suspected of being, Jews—were moved from Stalag IX-B to Berga, where, alongside Jews from Auschwitz, they were starved, beaten, and forced to work in appalling conditions before being sent on a death march. Cohen is particularly good at conveying the otherworldly encounters between Americans and European Jews in the camp, as when shock spreads over the face of a G.I. who realizes, after an exchange in broken Yiddish, that the crowd of wraithlike figures he sees is made up of Jews like him.
Denying History is a courageous and accessible book that studies "a looking-glass world where black is white, up is down, and the normal rules of reason no longer apply." Authors Michael Shermer and Alex Grobman have immersed themselves in the conferences, literature, and Web culture of Holocaust deniers; they have engaged the pseudo-historians in debate; and they have visited the concentration camps in Europe to investigate the truth of what happened there. Denying History presents Shermer and Grobman's findings. The book refutes, in detail, the Holocaust deniers' claims, and it demonstrates conclusively that the Holocaust did happen. It also explores the fundamental historical issue in all debates over the truth of the Holocaust: the question of "how we know that any past event happened." Thus, Denying History is a doubly useful book; it sets the record straight on one of history's most terrible events, and it instructs readers in the scientific, logical, and historiographical principles that can help us make wise judgments about history on our own.
Books on Other Victims of the Holocaust
And Who Will Kill You: The chronicle of the life and sufferings of priests in the concentration camps This book, compiled in 1944, is a collection of the stories told by Catholic priests who suffered alongside the Jews in the concentration camps throughout Europe during World War II. This remarkable book was compiled by a Roman Catholic Czech priest who was imprisoned for many years in Dachau concentration camp. It was first published in Czech in 1946. The English translation was published in 1994. The book is divided into two parts. The first part is 285 pages long. It is composed of over fifty accounts written by survivors about different aspects of the life of the approximately 2,670 Catholic priests (from 24 countries) who passed through what was the largest community, and the largest cemetery, of Catholic priests in the world. The second part, almost 300 pages long, is a list of the priests with basic facts about their imprisonment. Many priests who were in Nazi concentration camps (Dachau, Buchenwald, Mauthausen, Gusen, Sachsenhausen, Auschwitz, Orangienburg, Bergen-Belsen, etc.) have written their memoirs, but almost none are available English. This means that few readers of English know about the persecution of priests, Poles especially, during Hitler's Third Reich. This book is a must for people who wish to be informed about it. This book is principally about the imprisonment of non-German and Austrian priests.
Forgotten Survivors: Polish Christians Remember The Nazi Occupation Wanda Lorenc watched horrified as the first Wehrmacht soldiers stormed into Warsaw. Jan Porembski witnessed the mass executions of Polish civilians. Barbara Makuch became a courier for the Polish underground until she was caught and tortured. Jan Komski was thrown into the very first transport to Auschwitz and observed its rapid expansion firsthand. But, unlike the nearly three million other Polish Christians (and three million Polish Jews) who died during World War II, they survived. <P>Richard Lukas presents the compelling eyewitness accounts of these and other Polish Christians who suffered at the hands of the Germans. They bear witness to unspeakable horrors endured by those who were tortured, forced into slavery, shipped off to concentration camps, and even subjected to medical experiments. Their stories provide a somber reminder that non-Jewish Poles were just as likely as Jews to suffer at the hands of the Nazis, who viewed them with nearly equal contempt.
The Pink Triangle: The Nazi War Against Homosexuals This is the first comprehensive book in English on the fate of the homosexuals in Nazi Germany. The author, a German refugee, examines the climate and conditions that gave rise to a vicious campaign against Germany’s gays, as directed by Himmler and his SS--persecution that resulted in tens of thousands of arrests and thousands of deaths.
A Very Important New Book (2012): Shocking New Information From Recently Found British Intelligence Recordings Of German POW’s During WWII On Attitudes And Atrocities Committed by Ordinary German Soldiers and Airmen
Soldaten: On Fighting, Killing, and Dying Though initially recorded by British intelligence with the intention of gaining information that might be useful for the Allied war effort, the matters discussed in these conversations ultimately proved to be limited in that regard. But for Neitzel and his collaborator, renowned social psychologist Harald Welzer, they would supply a unique and profoundly important window into the mentality of the soldiers in the Wehrmacht, the Luftwaffe, the German navy, and the military in general, almost all of whom had insisted on their own honorable behavior during the war. It is a myth these transcripts unequivocally debunk. Soldaten closely examines these conversations, and the casual, pitiless brutality omnipresent in them, from a historical and psychological perspective. What factors led to the degradation of the soldiers’ sense of awareness and morality? How much did their social environments affect their interpretation of the war and their actions during combat? By reconstructing the frameworks and situations behind these conversations, and the context in which they were spoken, a powerful, unflinching narrative of wartime experience emerges. The details of what these soldiers did, after all, are not filtered the way they might be in letters to family, or girlfriends and wives, or during interrogations by the enemy. In Soldaten, Sönke Neitzel and Harald Welzer offer an unmitigated window into the mind-set of the German fighting man, potentially changing our view of World War II. Excerpt: POW Major General Walter Bruns is heard recalling a “typical Jewish action” he witnessed in Russia. BRUNS: “The trenches were 24 metres long and roughly three metres wide. They had to lie like sardines in a tin, heads towards the middle. Above, six machine gunners -delivered the neck-shots. They were mostly women and ¬children, not much older than two.” “The extermination of the Jews was known in the world of the soldier far more than recent investigations of the topic have suggested.” Other times, ordinary German soldiers boasted of contacting men they knew in SS units to ask when executions at this or that village were scheduled. Then they would take picnics and booze, and go along to watch for a grand day out.
Books That Address Anti Semitism From Ancient Times Through Today
The Devil That Never Dies: The Rise and Threat of Global Antisemitism (published September 2013). A groundbreaking--and terrifying--examination of the widespread resurgence of antisemitism in the 21st century, by the prize-winning and #1 internationally bestselling author of Hitler's Willing Executioners. A bare seven decades after THE WORLD `learned' that six million Jews were systematically murdered by Nazi Germany with impressive efficiency in a relatively short amount of time, Jew-hatred is back in full force - this time on a global scale. In response, Daniel Jonah Goldhagen, the author of HITLER'S WILLING EXECUTIONER has published "THE DEVIL THAT NEVER DIES - The Rise and Threat of Global Antisemitism". It is a much needed book, including in the US where antisemitism has become a taboo in the public sphere and where one may be lulled into the belief that this age-old scourge has lost its deadly force. It is troubling to read that just like in Germany in the late nineteen hundreds, antisemitism has once again taken a new foothold in academia in the US and even more pronounced in European countries which either collaborated or stood by while the Nazi regime murdered two thirds of its Jews. John Mersheimer and Stephen Walt for instance distribute their specious antisemitism in the guise of respectability and seriousness and use the bogeyman "Israel Lobby" as an example of a nefarious group which takes unfair advantage of non-Jews. The old canards are recycled in a pattern of mind-numbing repetitiveness and are only surprising in their lack of imagination of NOTHING NEW. In his extensive study, Goldhagen analyzes the singular nature of this particular prejudice and how it reinvents itself year in and year out, decade after decade, century after century to fit new circumstances while staying loyal to its core characteristic: Jews, or THE Jews, are used as the dung heap of any and all human shortcomings AND prejudices, especially in societies which prefer finger pointing to self-criticism. Goldhagen is equally adept at demonstrating that antisemitism withstands better knowledge, logic, facts to the contrary and the passion to willful ignorance of its adherents. In an interview on Vox Tablet [...] I heard Goldhagen refer to one of the common prejudices against Jews, i.e. " JEWS HAVE TOO MUCH POWER". "What does this even mean?" he then asked rhetorically. Indeed. What does this mean? Which brings me back to the inherent nature of Jew-hatred: It's a dogmatic and quite frankly insane belief system which does not withstand the slightest effort of critical thinking. All told, it reveals more about the hater than about Jews. Goldhagen lays bare the primordial (atavistic?) attraction of wide a swath of people - most of whom have never met a Jew and will never meet a Jew - to this specific eliminationist prejudice and how and where it thrives the best. While the internet is not to blame for the global reincarnation of this lethal hatred, Goldhagen demonstrates that the internet has been a potent vehicle for its distribution worldwide. Goldhagen's sources are immense and global, both from classic literature, history books and other printed material. While one reviewer took Goldhagen to task for using mostly sources on the internet, I would like to ask that reviewer "How else does one access the global media?"
Demonizing Israel and the Jews (published May 2013). Today, well over 100 million Europeans embrace a satanic view of the State of Israel. They believe that Israel is exterminating the Palestinians, despite their major population growth in recent decades. This current widespread demonic view of Israel is a new mutation of the diabolical beliefs about Jews which many held in the Middle Ages, and those promoted more recently by the Nazis and their allies. This demonization has been exacerbated by the consequences of the massive and non-selective immigration into Western Europe from Muslim countries, where incitement against Jews and Israel is often fanatic and ongoing. This collection of 57 interviews with scholars, politicians, and the like, depicts how extensive and intense the hate-mongering is. In his opening essay, Gerstenfeld puts the facts and views presented in the book into context. "Gerstenfeld helps us all understand the world's oldest hatred." -Rabbi Marvin Hier Founder and Dean Simon Wiesenthal Center "An authoritative, up-to-date guide to the cultural-ideological war being waged against the democratic Jewish state." -Prof. Frederick Krantz Director, Canadian Institute Jewish Research "This superb collection of incisive interviews on the demonization of Israel and the Jews should be located on the bookshelves of every committed Jewish activist." -Isi Leibler Former Chairman Governing Board World Jewish Congress "Manfred Gerstenfeld's collection of interviews on anti-Semitism and its proxy, delegitimization of Israel, is brilliantly selected and encyclopedic in scope. His own essay tying the interviews together makes this required reading for those who want to understand where anti-Semitism is today." -Richard B. Stone Chairman Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations. Published May 2013
Why the Jews? The Reason for Anti Semitism The very word Jew continues to arouse passions as does no other religious, national, or political name. Why have Jews been the object of the most enduring and universal hatred in history? Why did Hitler consider murdering Jews more important than winning World War II? Why has the United Nations devoted more time to tiny Israel than to any other nation on earth? In this seminal study, Dennis Prager and Joseph Telushkin attempt to uncover and understand the roots of antisemitism -- from the ancient world to the Holocaust to the current crisis in the Middle East. This postmillennial edition of Why the Jews? offers new insights and unparalleled perspectives on some of the most recent, pressing developments in the contemporary world, including: the replicating of Nazi anti Semitism in the Arab world, the pervasive anti-Zionism/anti Semitism on university campuses, the rise of anti Semitism in Europe and why the United States and Israel are linked in the minds of anti Semites Clear, persuasive, and thought provoking, Why the Jews? is must reading for anyone who seeks to understand the unique role of the Jews in human history.
A Convenient Hatred: The History of Antisemitism What keeps hatred alive? Many people thought anti Semitism would disappear after the Holocaust, but it did not. Hatreds are taught directly and indirectly, consciously and unconsciously, in small places close to home. Those teachings are bolstered by the media and other groups in a society, sometimes overtly and sometimes very subtly. Few people can recall how they came to see an entire group of people as "other" or "different." It happens so gradually that it feels normal, natural, even right. Once a collection of lies, stereotypes and myths are entrenched in a society, it has always been relatively easy for a ruler, a general, a charismatic preacher, a rabble-rouser, or a disgruntled neighbor to use them to achieve their own goals. Thus anti Semitism has long been a convenient way of uniting one's own followers and recruiting new ones by turning "us" against "them." Those same lies have also been used to divert attention from "our" own shortcomings. In times of stress, conflict and disease, the cry is often heard: "The Jews are to blame!". The history of antisemitism makes it clear that hatreds are not ideologies; they are not sets of beliefs but collections of often contradictory lies that play to our deepest fears and anxieties. And hatreds always evolve to reflect the times.
A Lethal Obsession: Anti-Semitism from Antiquity to the Global Jihad In this unprecedented 1200 page work published 2010 and two decades in the making, leading historian Robert S. Wistrich examines the long and ugly history of anti-Semitism, from the first recorded pogrom in 38 BCE to its shocking and widespread resurgence in the present day. As no other book has done before it, A Lethal Obsession reveals the causes behind this shameful and persistent form of hatred and offers a sobering look at how it may shake and reshape the world in years to come. Here are the fascinating and long-forgotten roots of the “Jewish difference”–the violence that greeted the Jewish Diaspora in first-century Alexandria. Wistrich suggests that the idea of a formless God who passed down a universal moral law to a chosen few deeply disconcerted the pagan world. The early leaders of Christianity increased their strength by painting these “superior” Jews as a cosmic and satanic evil, and by the time of the Crusades, murdering a “Christ killer” had become an act of conscience. Moving seamlessly through centuries of war and dissidence, A Lethal Obsession powerfully portrays the creation of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, the fateful anti-Semitic tract commissioned by Russia’s tsarist secret police at the end of the nineteenth century–and the prediction by Theodor Herzl, Austrian founder of political Zionism, of eventual disaster for the Jews in Europe. The twentieth century fulfilled this dark prophecy, with the horrifying ascent of Hitler’s Third Reich. Yet, as Wistrich disturbingly suggests, the end of World War II failed to neutralize the “Judeophobic virus”: Pogroms and prejudice continued in Soviet-controlled territories and in the Arab-Muslim world that would fan flames for new decades of distrust, malice, and violence. Here, in pointed and devastating detail, is our own world, one in which jihadi terrorists and the radical left blame Israel for all global ills. In his concluding chapters, Wistrich warns of a possible nuclear “Final Solution” at the hands of Iran, a land in which a formerly prosperous Jewish community has declined in both fortunes and freedoms. Dazzling in scope and erudition, A Lethal Obsession is a riveting masterwork of investigative nonfiction, the definitive work on this unsettling yet essential subject. It is destined to become an indispensable source for any student of world affairs.
Books About 2 Unique Men From This Period Who Deserve Recognition for Their Courage
Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy From the New York Times bestselling author of Amazing Grace, a groundbreaking biography of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, one of the greatest heroes of the twentieth century, the man who stood up to Hitler. A definitive, deeply moving narrative, Bonhoeffer is a story of moral courage in the face of the monstrous evil that was Nazism. Bonhoeffer was a pacifist, became a Christian martyr fought tirelessly and gallantly against Hitler's fascist government and Nazi genocide including being part of a plot to kill Hitler. Bonhoeffer stood in the gap by his faithful and undying conviction that real Christianity was based not on cheap grace, but costly grace. Cheap grace is rooted in liberal theology, formalism and progressivism and says that miracles are mythology and that since God loves and forgives everyone it really doesn't matter what you believe. By the time Hitler and the Nazis came to power in January 1933, most Germans didn't know what real grace was about – "God forgives; that's his job" was a proverbial saying of the day. After discovering the fire of true faith in a Harlem church, Bonhoeffer returned to Germany and became one of the first to speak out against Hitler. As a double-agent, he joined the plot to assassinate the Fuhrer, and was hanged in Flossenberg concentration camp at age 39 just 23 days before the surrender of Nazi Germany. Since his death, Bonhoeffer has grown to be one of the most fascinating, complex figures of the 20th century.
In Defiance of Hitler: The Secret Mission of Varian Fry On August 4, 1940, an unassuming American journalist named Varian Fry made his way to Marseilles, France, carrying in his pockets the names of approximately two hundred artists and intellectuals – all enemies of the new Nazi regime. As a volunteer for the Emergency Rescue Committee, Fry’s mission was to help these refugees flee to safety, then return home two weeks later. As more and more people came to him for assistance, however, he realized the situation was far worse than anyone in America had suspected – and his role far greater than he had imagined. He remained in France for over a year, refusing to leave until he was forcibly evicted by the Vicy Government and US State Department. At a time when most Americans ignored the atrocities in Europe, Varian Fry engaged in covert operations, putting himself in great danger, to save strangers in a foreign land. He was instrumental in the rescue of over two thousand refugees, including the novelist Heinrich Mann and the artist Marc Chagall. Varian Frye’s story was fully revealed for the first time in this book published in 2008. He passed away in 1967, his efforts largely unknown at the time. H was honored in 1994 by Yad Vashem as a "Righteous Among the Nations”.

The only way for the Holocaust to remain a living memory and to deny the Holocaust deniers their lie, is for Jews and those of other faiths to be constantly reminded that these events did in fact occur and of the massive documentation and family memories passed down to succeeding generations that exists to prove it.
Remembrance should also include the fact that if not for the strength of the United States to stand up to international forces that still wish the Jewish people harm and for Israel to "disappear" into a new "night and fog"....Israel would not have been created and continue to exist.

Nazi Persecution of the Disabled: Murder of “The Unfit, United States Holocaust Museum
On July 14, 1933, the German government instituted the “Law for the Prevention of Progeny with Hereditary Diseases.” This law called for the sterilization of all persons who suffered from diseases considered hereditary, including mental illness, learning disabilities, physical deformity, epilepsy, blindness, deafness, and severe alcoholism. With the law’s passage the Third Reich also stepped up its propaganda against the disabled, regularly labeling them “life unworthy of life” or “useless eaters” and highlighting their burden upon society. The term “euthanasia” (literally, “good death”) usually refers to the inducement of a painless death for a chronically or terminally ill individual. In Nazi usage, however, “euthanasia” referred to the systematic killing of the institutionalized mentally and physically disabled. The secret operation was code-named T4, in reference to the street address (Tiergartenstrasse 4) of the program's coordinating office in Berlin.
This Wikipedia page is recommended as a must read due to the details it contains about the evolution of the Holocaust and the planning for The Final Solution/mass killing of so many. An example: "By November 1941, it was becoming known in the upper reaches of the Nazi leadership and government offices that Hitler intended all the Jews of Europe to be deported to the eastern territories and, by some means, to have them executed. To carry out such a massive enterprise, involving the registration, assembly and transportation of millions of people, at a time when the necessary material and human resources were already severely stretched, would be a formidable logistical challenge. It was also one that at least some elements of the German state apparatus might be expected to obstruct or fail to co-operate with. It thus seemed advisable to bring together representatives of all affected departments to explain what was intended and how it was to be carried out, and to make it clear that the project had been undertaken on the highest authority of the Reich. The Wannsee Conference itself was held January 20, 1942, delayed due to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941 and a Soviet Army Offensive outside of Moscow."

b. Stop Teaching About The Holocaust So That Children See Germany In A Better Light, Says Lord Baker British schools should no longer teach children about the Nazis because it makes them think less favourably of modern Germany, the architect of the National Curriculum has claimed. Lord Baker, who introduced the National Curriculum in the 1980s, said: “I would ban the study of Nazism from the history curriculum totally. “It’s one of the most popular courses because it’s easily taught and I don’t really think that it does anything to learn more about Hitler and Nazism and the Holocaust. James Smith, Chairman of the Holocaust Centre, said: “The study of the Holocaust leaves children ill-disposed to present day Germany only if it is badly taught. The period of the Nazis was not just a blip in German history; the Holocaust was a Europe-wide crime. Telegraph (a leading British newspaper). December 24 2

c. Anti-Semitism and Anti-Israelism in Western Schools. [A Very Important November 2011 Report Worth Reading]: “Many books currently used in U.S. schools are a major source of biased anti-Israeli teaching. In the 1990s, Mitchell Bard published Rewriting History in Textbooks, a study of eighteen of the most widely used history textbooks in American high schools. He found them "full of factual errors, oversimplification, omission, and distortion, consistently to the detriment of Jews and Israel. This inevitably leads to the conclusion that the authors are prejudiced." …. high schools are, as far as anti-Israeli teaching is concerned, even worse than universities. This problem has grown since the Arab terrorist attacks of 9/11. The people who are producing the information about it in textbooks are largely funded by the Saudis. We have tried during the last couple of years to produce texts on the history of Israel and found it surprisingly difficult to get them into public schools. Institute for Jewish Global Affairs. j. Poison Ivy League There is no greater lockstep in political thinking than on the campuses of American universities, particularly elite schools in the north-east. A critical component of the worldview of the academic Left now is hatred of Israel and support for the Palestinian cause. The universities can try to make student life “comfortable” for Jewish students, who by and large pay the freight (full tuition). Hatred for Jews is also being stirred up by Sweden's leftwing political establishment and its pathological obsession with Israel. "We reluctantly are issuing this advisory because religious Jews and other members of the Jewish community there have been subject to anti-Semitic taunts and harassment. n. Congregation Beth El Synagogue In New Jersey Firebombed With Molotov Cocktails Several Molotov cocktails and other incendiary devices were thrown at a northern New Jersey synagogue early Wednesday, igniting a fire in the second-floor bedroom of the rabbi's residence. He urged residents to be vigilant, but not afraid. In addition to being classified as a bias crime, Molinelli said Wednesday's intentionally set early-morning fire was possibly the work of more than one person. The incident occurred about 4:30 a.m., when incendiary devices were thrown at various parts of the large Victorian-style home that houses Congregation Beth El on its ground floor, and the rabbi's living quarters on the second level. In September 1935, Nazi Germany passed laws that deprived German Jews of their citizenship. Without citizenship, Jews were legally defenseless. Many lost their jobs and property. Hitler also targeted with violence and persecution countless thousands of gypsies, Catholics, homosexuals, and even the physically and mentally impaired. With so many Germans fleeing their homeland, the Roosevelt State Department temporarily eased immigration quotas. In 1936, the US State Department approved visas for about 7,000 German refugees. By 1938, that number had increased to more than 20,000. But an opinion poll revealed that 82 percent of Americans still opposed admitting large numbers of Jewish refugees into the United States. One must also remember that that much anti Semitism existed in the US in the 1930’s. More than 100 anti-Semitic organizations blanketed the US with propaganda blaming Jews for all America's ills. Businesses discriminated against Jews, refusing them jobs. Signs at private beaches bore the words "No Jews or Dogs allowed" and certain hotels and housing developments proudly proclaimed themselves "Restricted." Despite pleas by American human-rights organizations, the U.S. State Department refused to increase the German quota any further. Less than a year after the United States entered the war, the Roosevelt administration confirmed that the Germans had embarked upon the systematic annihilation of Europe's Jews, and had already murdered some two million of them. In December 1942, the Allied governments released a joint statement acknowledging that the Germans were "carrying into effect Hitler's oft-repeated intention to exterminate the Jewish people of Europe." On November 25, 1942, more than three years after Hitler ignited World War II, The New York Times carried the first authenticated report that the Nazis had established a policy to exterminate the Jews. At last, on January 16, 1944, President Franklin Roosevelt officially reversed the government's policy of obstruction. He signed Executive Order 9417, creating the War Refugee Board, which was instructed to "take all measures to rescue victims of enemy oppression in imminent danger of death."
d. The International Tracing Service, An Arm Of The Swiss-Run International Committee Of The Red Cross (ICRC), Will Finally Release Files From A Nazi-Era Archive. May 15 2007
Under an agreement reached on Tuesday, Holocaust institutions will be able to access in a few months' time copies of data locked away in a quiet German town for more than 50 years. The archive contains Nazi records on the arrest, transportation, incarceration, forced labour and deaths of millions of people from the year the Nazis built their first concentration camp in 1933 to the end of the war in May 1945. It also has a vast collection of post-war records from displaced persons camps. The name index refers to 17.5 million victims. Seized by the Allies after the war, the files were closed under a 1955 agreement to protect the privacy of survivors and the reputation of the dead who may have undergone humiliating medical experiments or been falsely accused of crimes. This article is from May 15, 2007. Read more by clicking on link below
Editors note: The question has been raised by many …who was really being protected by the International Red Cross and national signatories to the Agreement sealing these files for 50 years and only agreeing to start releasing them in 2007…the victims and their families desperate for information about loved ones missing in the Holocaust period…or the perpetrators whose identities were part of the same files and who like the victims… have now passed away. For those who could not get information about their loved ones...the Holocaust in effect continued long after the war ended.
